MANSFIELD, Mass. – New Haven senior
Michael Reddy (Forest Hills, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) has been recognized by the Northeast-10 as the conference's Male Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. It is the first major weekly award for the Chargers during the indoor track season so far in 2019-20.
Reddy earns the accolade after breaking the school record in the 1,000 meter run at last Friday's Spartan Invitational. His time of 2:29.48 placed him second out of 14 runners in the race, and broke the old school record by over a half-second, which had been held by James Beaubrun since 2006. Reddy was also the only non-Division I athlete to place in the top five of the event.
The Chargers also saw three members of the men's and women's teams land on the NE10's weekly honor roll, including junior jumper
Dante Gonzalez (Palisades Park, N.J./Palisades Park), who finished third out of 17 in the high jump after clearing 1.93 meters, in addition to running on the 4x400m relay team that finished second. The 4x4 team was the only non-Division I team to place in the top four of the race and is the No. 2 time in the NE10 this season and No. 3 in the East Region this season.
On the women's side, grad student Kathleen Amstad made the honor roll after finishing runner-up out of 101 runners in the 200m dash in 25.74, and also took fifth out of 81 in the 60m dash in 7.90 seconds. Her 200m time ranks fourth in the NE10 and East Region this season. She also raced on the Chargers 4x200m relay team that finished sixth out of 19 teams in 1:46.57.
Kristen Washington won the long jump (1st of 48 - 5.46m) and took fourth in the triple jump (4th of 28 - 11.15m) at the Spartan Invitational. Her mark is the third longest jump this season in the NE10, with one of the two higher marks being her conference-leading 5.63m leap from back in December. She also ran on the Chargers' 4x4 relay team that finished in fourth place.
New Haven will next compete this Friday at the Wheaton Invitational.
