STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – New Haven Track and Field competed at the NEC Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The Blue & Gold saw multiple student-athletes reach the podium across many different events, highlighted by multiple conference champions.
On the women's side,
Jada Kamtha (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust High School for Girls) captured first place in the women's 60m hurdles with a winning time of 8.72s.
Gabrielle Teel (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) earned the conference title in the triple jump with a mark of 12.25m.
D'Jior Delisser (/) secured a third-place finish in the long jump, recording a distance of 5.56m. The women's 4x400m relay team, consisting of
Riley Davis (Preson, Conn./Norwich Free Academy),
Micaela Owen (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross), Deja Harris, and
Rayniah Mercedat (/), added to the podium count with a third-place finish, finishing the race in 3:59.52.
On the men's side,
Jimmy Oreste (Jamaica, N.Y./) (Jamaica, N.Y.) led the way with a first-place finish in the weight throw, delivering a top throw of 18.98m.
Cole Parker (Severn, Md.) (Severn, Md.) earned a second-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 7.10m. In the triple jump,
Matthew Steele (North Kingstown, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) (North Kingstown, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) claimed second place with a mark of 14.72m, while
Noah Cooper (Hopatchong, N.J./Union Catholic) (Hopatchong, N.J./Union Catholic) followed closely behind in third at 14.52m.
Jhelani Anderson (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) ran to a third-place finish in the 60m dash, finishing at 6.888s, and
Thomas Conklin (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall) added another podium performance with a third-place finish in the 800m run in 1:54.58.
As a team, the Chargers finished fifth overall on the men's side with 79 points, while the women placed eighth overall with 55 points at the NEC Championships. The meet concludes the Chargers' indoor season and the program will enjoy a few weeks off while the weather warms up for the outdoor season.
