NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior jumper Dante Gonzalez (Palisades Park, N.J./Palisades Park) tied for the top height in the high jump to lead the New Haven men's track and field team in their final tune-up ahead of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, the Jack Maloney Invitational hosted by Southern Connecticut State University.
Gonzalez's finished out the high jump with a height of 1.90 meters. The only other Charger to finish among the top-two on the field was junior Jonathan Cineus (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) who posted a pair of top-three performances on the day. In the triple jump, the Stratford, Conn. native hit a distance of 13.43 meters to finish second, while in the long jump he was part of a three-four finish with his distance of 6.75 meters setting a new personal best.
Following Cineus in the long jump was freshman Kenneth Holland () who leapt to a distance of 6.62 meters. Graduate student thrower Jonathan Pierre (Braintree, Mass./Archbishop Williams) also posted a top-three finish with his distance of 52.02 meters good for third place in the hammer throw.
Rounding out the top finishes was sophomores Cameron Picard in the javelin throw and Liam Anderson in the shotput. Picard posted his best distance of the day at 42.62 meters which placed fourth overall while Anderson threw to a distance of 12.46 meters in the shot.
On the track it was the sprinters who led the pack for New Haven with the top finish on the day coming in the 110-meter hurdles where freshman Jordany Dely () closed out the event with a time of 15.37. Freshman sprinter Nile Colson () posted a pair of top-five finishes, closing out the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.16 for a fifth place finish, while posting a fourth place time in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.76.
The Chargers will continue preparations for the 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Championship, a three-day event that is scheduled to take place from May 6-7 and hosted by American International.
