FULL RESULTS
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A pair of first place finishes in the field events paced the New Haven women's track and field team at the Jack Maloney Invitational, the final event prior to the Northeast-10 Championship, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University.
Sophomore Hope Cuomo () earned the first medal of the day for the Blue and Gold when she took home title honors in the high jump, hitting a height of 1.50 meters. Junior Kristen Washington (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) followed her in the triple jump where her distance of 11.51 meters edged out her closest competition by two one-hundredths of a meter for first place accolades. The pair were part of 13 top-four finishes in the field events, while two Chargers took home top-three honors in two events on the track. Leading that duo was Alli Kenealy (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) who closed out the 1,500 meter run in a time of 5:17.12 to finish third overall. In the sprint events it was sophomore Wenka Vil (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) who finished among the top-three with her time of 14.00 in the 100-meter dash, a personal best time by nearly a full half second. Vil also added a third place finish in the pole vault with her height of 2.15 meters.
In addition to Washington's medal finish in the triple jump, the New Haven, Conn. native also took home second place honors in the long jump with her distance of 5.61 meters. In the triple jump, Washington was part of a trio of Chargers who finished among the top-four with junior Mikayla Yatsko (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) (11.24 meters) and sophomore Destinee Innis-Lemar (/) (10.46 meters) each hitting personal best distances to finish third and fourth, respectively.
Rounding out the runner-up finishes on the day was sophomore Elise Dodel (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) who was part of a two-three finish in the discus throw with her distance of 34.34 meters edging out freshman Emma Doyle () who hit a distance of 31.60 meters. The 34.34 meter distance for Dodel set a new personal best for the Waterloo, Ill. Native.
Two additional Chargers finished among the top-three in their respective events with sophomore Neva Bostic (Saint Johnsbury, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) closing out her second meet with the Blue and Gold hitting a distance of 32.34 meters to finish third in the javelin throw. That distance narrowly beat out teammate Corrine Quaglieri (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) who finished fourth with her best distance of 32.05 meters.
Rounding out the leading performers on the day was sophomore Jalynn McCown (New Haven, Conn.) who hit a distance of 43.13 meters in the hammer throw, surpassing her previous best of 40.02 meters, finishing third overall in the event.
The Chargers will continue preparations for the 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Championship, a three-day event that is scheduled to take place from May 6-7 and hosted by American International.
