THE LEAD
The University of New Haven men's soccer team will head back on the road to take on the Saint Rose Golden Knights at Pulmeri Sports Complex on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 4:00 PM.
Â
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Chargers look to erase an eight-game losing streak against the Golden Knights. New Haven trails in the series 3-10 with a 1-4 record on the road. Last time the two met, Saint Rose won the last match, 2-1, on Oct. 1, 2019. Click Here for a complete series history.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (4-2, 1-2Â NE10)
Last time the Chargers took the pitch, they shutout the Saint Anselm Hawks, 2-0, for their first conference win of the season. New Haven enters the matchup with the second most goals scored as a team (20) in the NE-10.
Pau Santanach (Barcelona, Spain/Collegi CreaNova) extended his scoring streak to six games, scoring high and right off an assist from Alexander Gunnarsson (Kopavogur, Iceland/Verzlenarskoli Islands). Sanatach's eighth goal of the year was enough for him to reclaim the lead for goals scored in the conference.
Gunnarsson had two assists in last Saturday's victory, assisting on a Imanol Ruiz (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain/Sagrado Corazon Carmelitas) goal, as well. He is now tied for second in the conference in assists (4) trailing only Tano Desseno (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Saint Patrick College) (5) who was also credited with an assist on Ruiz's goal.
New Haven enters the matchup, outshooting opponents 77-50 (39-31 on goal). The Chargers have also drawn more cornerkicks, as well, 33-23.
The Charger's freshman goalkeeper Themis Kastoris (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasiet) tallied three saves during the shutout, his second of the season, bringing his total to 18 so far on the season.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (2-3-1, 1-1Â NE10)
In their last full season, the Golden Knights finished the year with a 10-6-4 record (6-4-2) on their way to a NE-10 Finals appearance with a 5-1-2 record at home. Fast forward to now, after being ranked 5th in the NE-10 Preseason Coaches's Poll, Saint Rose is coming off a 2-0 loss against #2 Franklin Pierce to make their record 2-3-1 through the first six games of the 2021 season. The Golden Knights have struggled when hosting this year, entering with a 0-2-1 record at home.Â
Offense has been hard to come by for the Golden Knights, as they've scored just six goals on the season. The only team in the conference with less goals scored is Southern Connecticut (5), who the Golden Knights defeated last Wednesday, 2-0.
The Golden Knights entered the season with a very young roster composed of 16 freshmen, ten sophomores, seven juniors, and only two seniors.
Head coach John Ciano entered his sixth season with the Saint Rose Golden Knights after being appointed the 11th head coach in program history in the spring of 2016. Ciano holds a 37-35-7 record (21-25-7 NE-10) as the leader of the Knights.Â
