WHAT'S ON TAP
Following a week break to recuperate at home with family and friends celebrating the Thanksgiving Holiday, the Chargers will head on the road for a second-straight time, traveling to the capital of the Bay State, Springfield, to take on the AIC Yellow Jackets on Wednesday evening as they look for their first road win of the season.

SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
Defense wins games! It has been a yearly goal to hold opponents to a low scoring output and this year is no different as the Chargers enter Wednesday night limiting their opponents to just 59 points per game. On the flip side, it has been a few years since we have seen an offensive minded New Haven team, but through the first four games this season, the Chargers are scoring at an average of 72.5 ppg, putting their margin of victory at 13.5 ppg with a 3-1 record in the early going. Leading those efforts is graduate guard Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) who is averaging a conference-best 22 points per game, including a career-high 30 points in the season opener against Georgian Court. Her co-captain Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) has both offense and defense on her mind as she is tied for second on the team averaging 14.8 ppg, while one of just two players in the NE10 who is averaging a double double as she is pulling down a conference best 13.8 rebounds per outing. In addition, Deshaies leads all NE10 players with her 69% shooting percentage (27-of-39) with all of her points coming from inside the three-point arc. Rounding out the leading scorers for the Blue and Gold is senior point guard Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) who is averaging 14.8 ppg, while leading the team with 18 assists. Defensively, it is senior guard Marigona Bacaliu (Worcester, Mass./Putnam Science Academy) who leads the team with 12 steals, while New Haven has 36 on the year and has turned the 75 turnovers they have forced into 77 points, including 74 in the first three games of the season alone.

SCOUTING AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
Coming off of a 76-58 loss to conference leading Assumption, who is undefeated in conference play, the Yellow Jackets are in search of their second win of the season, with the lone victory so far against Bridgeport. For the season, AIC is being outscored by 14 points per game, averaging 59.2 ppg on offense while surrendering 73.2 ppg to their opponents. Defending the shooter is one area for improvement for the Yellow Jackets whose opponents are shooting 44.2 percent against them, including 36 percent from outside the arc, with more than a quarter of their opponent's buckets coming from outside the arc. Leading the Yellow Jackets on the season is senior guard Kayla Robinson who is averaging 13.4 ppg, one of three players in double figures. Joining her in leading the offense is Taylor Tomlinson (12.2 ppg) and Nora Young (11.0 ppg), with that trio making up 62 percent of the overall scoring. Defensively, AIC is turning their opponents over at an average of 20.2 per game, while surrendering their own possessions at a rate of 15.4 per game.

SERIES HISTORY vs AIC

·         New Haven and American International meet for the 45th time in the history of the two programs on Wednesday

·         The Chargers hold a 23-21 record in the previous 44 games, having won seven of the last eight against the Yellow Jackets

·         AIC's most successful part of the series came in the early 1990'sand then again when the series returned in the early 2000's with the Yellow Jackets winning 11 straight.

·         Last season, the teams split the home-and-home series with each winning on the other's home court. The second of those was a defensive battle with New Haven taking the 49-36 victory.

LAST TIME THEY MET
In a defensive battle, the Chargers earned their third conference victory of the season with a 49-36 decision on the Yellow Jackets home court in Springfield. Leading the Blue and Gold on the afternoon was Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) who completed a 14-point, 14-rebound double double, making have of her 12 shot attempts. Overall, Deshaies was one of only two players in the game in double figures, with the other also a Charger as Briana Van Cleaf (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) closed out the game with 10 points and added nine boards. New Haven held the Yellow Jackets to just 25 percent (13-of-51) shooting on their home court with Nora Young and Kyla Smith leading the team, each with nine points.

NEXT TIME OUT
