WHAT'S ON TAP
Looking to break a two-game skid, both losses on the road, the Chargers open up the second month of the season with a visit from the Franklin Pierce Ravens as the Blue and Gold looks to remain unbeaten on their home court (3-0).
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
Defense wins games! It has been a yearly goal to hold opponents to a low scoring output and this year is no different as the Chargers enter Wednesday night limiting their opponents to just 61.4 points per game. On the flip side, it has been a few years since we have seen an offensive minded New Haven team, but through the first four games this season, the Chargers are scoring at an average of 70.4 ppg, putting their margin of victory at 9.0 ppg with a 3-2 record in the early going. Leading those efforts is graduate guard Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) who is averaging a conference-best 20.8 points per game, including a career-high 30 points in the season opener against Georgian Court. Her co-captain Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) has both offense and defense on her mind as she is second on the team averaging 15.4 ppg, while one of just two players in the NE10 who is averaging a double double as she is pulling down a conference best 12.4 rebounds per outing. In addition, Deshaies leads all NE10 players with her 68% shooting percentage (36-of-53) with all of her points coming from inside the three-point arc. Rounding out the leading scorers for the Blue and Gold is senior point guard Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) who is averaging 11.8 ppg, while leading the team with 22 assists. Defensively, it is senior guard Marigona Bacaliu (Worcester, Mass./Putnam Science Academy) who leads the team with 14 steals, while New Haven has 43 on the year and has turned the 84 turnovers they have forced into 86 points, including 74 in the first three games of the season alone.
SCOUTING FRANKLIN PIERCE
A team that was picked to finish middle of the pack in the Northeat-10 Conference, Franklin Pierce enters Saturday afternoon with a 3-4 record, including an identical 1-2 mark in conference play as the Chargers. The Ravens are coming off of a 20-point loss against Le Moyne on Wednesday night, with that loss following up back-to-back wins over Caldwell and Saint Michael's, the second of which is the lone conference win for the Ravens. For the season, Franklin Pierce is averaging 60.3 points per game, led by Ines Gimenez-Monserrat who is averaging nearly a third of those points at 18.7 ppg, fourth most in the NE10. One of two players who have started every game for the Ravens, Gimemez-Monserrat also leads the Ravens with her 7.4 rebounds per game average and has dished out a team-high 27 assists. Joining her in leading the team is Anna Badosa-Soler and Leana Heitmann who are averaging 12.0 and 11.3 ppg, respectively.
