After three consecutive wins at home, the University of New Haven men's basketball program head to New Hampshire to take on the Franklin Pierce Ravens. Since their 77-48 loss to Pace on the road, the Chargers have been hot - with two of their last three wins being by at least 20 points.
Monday's Valentine's Day contest was previously set for Jan. 29, but was rescheduled to a later date. This will be the first time the Chargers play the Ravens since Feb. 1, 2020 a midst the 2019-20 season before the pandemic.
Scouting the Ravens (12-7, 9-5 NE10)
After starting the month of February with three road games, Franklin Pierce returned home Saturday to take on Saint Michael's. The Raven's have won two of their last three. However they have to face the Chargers who are lit up on a three-game winning streak and have the possibility to extend it to four, what would be their longest streak of the season.
Right now, Franklin Pierce sits second in the Northeast division of the conference with nine NE10 wins.
For their past two contenders, the Ravens have been led by junior, guard Isaiah Moore. Moore has scored in double-figures every game he's played this season, which is all but two towards the end of January. Since coming back, Moore has had four 20-plus point games. He averages 22.6 points per game, leading the conference in scoring average, and has a combined 52 points over the last two games.
Maxwell Zegarowski, is Franklin Pierce's weapon from outside the arc. The junior forward is fourth in the conference with a three-point shooting percent of .432. At Saint Rose, he went 4-for-4 from three-point range but fell into a slump last game against Saint Michael's, connecting on only 1-of-5 attempts. Aside from his three-point shooting, Zegarowski averages 6.5 rebounds per game.
As a whole, Franklin Pierce does not turn the ball over as much as other teams in the NE10. They actually have the best turnover average in the conference at 10.3 per game.
Scouting the Chargers (14-7, 10-6 NE10)
The Blue and Gold have been hot. Since their fall to Pace, the Chargers are 3-0 with all games have been played in the comfy confines of Charger Gymnasium. Now they must head back on the road but keep the momentum going.
Last game against Southern New Hampshire, it was
Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) who led the team with 20 points; over the last three games Lane has put up 41 points. But also,
Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) and
Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) recorded double-doubles, for the both of them it was their second of the season.
The SNHU matchup was very physical, two technicals and a total of 35 personal fouls were given out. But one person you do not want on the free-throw line as an opponent is Lane, which is exactly what happened against the Penmen. Lane was sent to the stripe and made 10-of-11 attempts.
They were aggressive shooting from the outside last game, taking 30 attempts, only eight however connected. Thomas and Lane each had two made three-pointers.
