Coming off a road loss, the Chargers are back home for their next three contenders. First up is the land and sea meeting between the New Haven Chargers and the Le Moyne Dolphins.
Back on Nov. 20, New Haven headed up to Syracuse and fell by four, this started their three-game losing streak that ended when taking on Southern Connecticut.
Inside the Series
The Blue and Gold are 15-26 against Le Moyne, dating all the way back to the 1980-81. Under head coach, ted Hotaling, New Haven is 9-14 up against the Dolphins. New Haven ventured up north to Le Moyne's campus to start conference play and came home with four unanswered points and their first loss of the season.
Scouting the Dolphins (9-10, 5-7 NE10)
Le Moyne is sitting right behind New Haven in the Southwest division of the conference at fourth place. They have lost four of their last five games, the only win was over Assumption who is 4-9 in the NE10.
The Dolphins are playing their next three on the road: New Haven, Adelphi, then American International. When traveling they hold a split 4-4 record.
Christian Davis is the Dolphins secret weapon, especially when it comes to shooting. This season the redshirted freshman accumulated 274 points, that's 17 more than New Haven's leading scorer Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie). Davis is fifth in the conference in terms of three-pointers at 47 this season. Davis has attempted 127 shots from outside the perimeter, averaging 6.8 per game. He also leads his team in rebounds, 127 so far this season.
As a team, the Dolphins are first amongst the NE10 schools is steals. Which means, New Haven is going to have to limit their turnovers in hopes of keeping the ball away from Kevin Constant, the Dolphins leader in steals who has taken 37 possessions away from his opponents this season.
Scouting the Chargers (11-7, 7-6 NE10)
Derrick Rowland (Cohoes, N.Y./Green Tech) has been absent in the starting five since Stonehill, but at Pace he made his comeback. He led the Chargers in Pleasantville with 16 points, 12 of which were from beyond the arc. He climbed up the charts in New Haven history, tying former teammate Elijah Bailey in career three-pointers with 213.
The Chargers are 183-266 at the free-throw line. In their 29-point loss on Wednesday, they went 9-17 from the stripe; their opponent: 10-11. They also allowed the Setters to earn 14 second chance points.
