The New Haven Chargers galloped past No. 5 Le Moyne on Wednesday in an epic 14-13 victory in Syracuse. After back-to-back contests on the road, they will return to Kathy Zolad Stadium on Saturday to take on another ranked Northeast-10 team, the No. 18 Stonehill Skyhawks.Â
Inside the SeriesÂ
The Stonehill-New Haven series is currently split with each team holding seven wins, accompanied by seven losses. Going into Saturday this will be the 15th meeting between both NE10 schools. The 2019 season was the last time these two took the same field. In that contest the Chargers took the one-goal victory back home, which is where the two will square off Saturday. Since 2016, New Haven has been on a winning streak against Stonehill winning their past four games, one being a 10-0 shut out at home. If the Chargers soar past the Skyhawks this time around that will be six in a row, the longest win streak between both programs, when playing each other.Â
Scouting the Skyhawks (6-2, 4-1 NE10)
Stonehill and New Haven both share the same season record as of right now. But when looking at conference play, the Skyhawks have played one more NE10 school. So far they have taken on Franklin Pierce, Le Moyne, American International, Bentley, and Assumption. They solidified a 17-14 victory over Le Moyne, New Haven's most recent opponent, when the Dolphins were ranked second. They start the month April after suffering a loss to No. 19 Assumption this past Wednesday.Â
The Skyhawks have executed double-digit goals every single contest. The highest in a single game has been 22, which occurred twice, back-to-back. They average 18.4 goals per game on 34.9 shots per game.Â
Emma Sullivan, senior midfielder, leads the team currently with 31 goals so far in the season. Just last season she was named the NE10's Midfielder of the Year, for her 26 points on 21 goals and five assists. The native of Madison, Conn. holds a season-high of five goals in a single contest and has done so four times including Wednesday against Assumption.Â
Scouting the Chargers (6-2, 2-2 NE10)
This past Wednesday, New Haven knocked off No. 5 Le Moyne and will now face another ranked opponent. Raegan Bailey (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) stole the show at Ted Grant Field scoring six goals, a tie for her career-high set in her first collegiate lacrosse game. She went 2-for-2 on free position attempts and her final shot of the night was the decision maker in the 14-13 win. She leads the team with 29 goals on the season; right behind her is Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot).Â
Skelly, who posted two goals last game, is now sitting at 24 on the season and 92 throughout her career at New Haven. At Saint Rose she scored her 100th point and is now only eight goals away from hitting her 100th goal.Â
Goalkeeper, Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), had her highest amount of saves since her season high, 18, against Franklin Pierce. At Le Moyne she faced 32 shots and finished with a save average of .480 on the night.Â
