Following an Elm City battle the Chargers are now split 4-4 in the Northeast-10. New Haven returns home for a meeting with the Southern New Hampshire Penmen on Saturday afternoon.Â
Inside the Series
Similar to the Chargers series against Southern Connecticut, New Haven has only fallen twice twice to the Penmen. The two teams have taken the field together a total of 13 times, 11 of them have resulted in victories for the Blue and Gold. In this seasons meeting at Kathy Zolad Stadium, the Chargers not only looking for their third straight win in a matter of a week, but they are looking to keep their 10-game winning streak against the Penmen alive, and extend it even further.Â
The only times New Haven gave up a win to SNHU was in their first ever meeting in 2009, then again in 2010. Both games were determined by one, single goal. In their most recent contender in Manchester, the Chargers pulled off a 12-5 win on the home field of the Penmen. On average, the Blue and Gold rack up 15.4 goals per contest.Â
Scouting the Penmen (7-3, 5-3 NE10)
Southern New Hampshire has won their last three, which started off April 5 at No. 16 Bentley University. Going into extra minutes, the Penmen took home a 15-14 win before winning their next two at home.Â
In their most recent meeting, American International College made their way up north only to fall 20-10 to the Penmen. On Wednesday it was the junior, Skylar Renaud whose stick was red hot. She scored eight points, seven goals and one assist. Five other teammates contributed to the total 20 goals scored, but Renaud carried most of the weight scoring most of her goals in the final half of action. After the conclusion of the victory over the Yellow Jackets, she moved up to second in team scoring behind Shelby Cole.Â
The SNHU roster houses there goalkeepers, but their go-to is Caela McCartney. Defending the net for the Penmen this season she has made seven starts and totals 59 saves. Also in the rotation is Hayle Ashford who has made six appearances and three starts for a total of 226 minutes.Â
On Monday, freshman Madison Keating was named the NE10's Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. In their 15-14 win over the No. 16 Bentley Falcons, she scored one goal. Then had a four point game, a pair of goals and a pair of assists, in the Penmen victory over Southern Connecticut.Â
Scouting the Chargers (8-4, 4-4 NE10)
The Chargers also played Southern Connecticut, spilling out a 12 goal game defeating the Owls by two at Jess Dow Field. This two-goal game was New Haven's 15th straight win over their crosstown rival.Â
After a no shot, no goal game for Annie Acquavita (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) against Pace, she bounced back to score three goals for the Blue and Gold on Wednesday. So far she has had six games scoring at least three goals, with a season-high of five against Franklin Pierce. Acquavita is the team's third leading scorer behind Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) and Raegan Bailey (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire).
Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) was a massive asset in the Chargers win over Southern Connecticut with 15 saves in front of the net. Prior to the Owls she combined 16 saves in her last two and was three saves shy of matching her career-high 18 back when the Chargers played Franklin Pierce, the same game in which Acquavita shot in five goals for the Blue and Gold.Â
