WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The New Haven Women's Track and Field team traveled to Eastern Massachusetts to compete in the Jay Carisella Coaches Invitational Meet held at Northeastern University. From start to finish the team dominated in the field and on the track, winning one event and finishing with six top finishes.
Neva Bostic (Saint Johnsbury, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) continued to dominate the field in the Javelin,throwing her spear far, and winning yet again at the meet, making this her fourth win of the season. After opening with a mark of 34.41 meters, Bostic would change the look of the leader board on her second throw. Her second throw beat out her first by over three meters and would move her all the way up to first with a mark of 38.35 meters. That throw would be all she needed, winning the event for the blue and gold and her fourth victory of the season. That throw would also move her up to second in the region.
Kristen Washington (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) continued to dominate in the sand in both the triple jump and long jump. After fouling her first jump, Washington found her stride through the wind jumping 10.77 meters. After moving up the standing, Washington wanted more and on her fourth jump found that. On her fourth jump she got a mark of 11.11 meters moving her all the way into second place and taking home her first of two top finishes in the sand. In the long jump, Washington needed one jump to take home a third place finish. After opening with a foul, she jumped 5.43 meters battling the wind. That mark would move her all the way up the leader board and finish her in third with her second top three finish of the meet.
On the track, Savannah Sistrunk (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences) took home third place in the 100 meter dash. In qualifying, she crossed in (13.01) with the fifth best time but she saved her best for the finals. In the finals Sistrunk would shave almost a quarter of a second off her time, running 12.74 finishing third in the event.
Closing out the meet both relay teams took home third place finishes first with the 4x100 meter relay team. The team of Kristen Washington (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse), Mariama Diakhate (/), Mackenzie Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood), and Savannah Sistrunk (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences) crossed with a time of 50.01.
Following that the 4x400 meter relay team of Da-Xia Colon, Hannah Swain (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South), Alexandra Kenealy and Nicolette Maselli (Milltown, N.J./Spotswood) crossed in 4:26.01 taking third in the event for the blue and gold.
The team now returns to Connecticut for their final regular season meet and their Senior day Meet at Southern Connecticut State competing at the Jim Barber & Jack Maloney Tri-Meet next weekend. That will be the final meet ahead of the Conference Championships that is now only two weeks away.
