MANSFIELD, Mass. – The men's track and field team took home three weekly awards winning Field Rookie of the Week, Field Athlete of the Week and the Relay of the week after competing at the Jay Carisella Coaches Invitational Meet held at Northeastern University, as announced by the Northeast 10.
Cole Parker (Severn, MD/Annapolis Area Christian School) was named Field Rookie of the week following his second place finish in the long jump at the meet. Cole Parker (Severn, MD/Annapolis Area Christian School) needed just one jump to finish second overall. Parker was seeded at 6.66 meters and would leap well past that. After fouling his first jump, Parker came back strongly, jumping 6.88 meters which moved him up to second place and beating his previous seed by .22 meters.
Jonathan Cineus (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) added to the Chargers weekly awards being named Field Athlete of the week winning the Triple Jump. Cineus would build the suspense and put the pressure on himself waiting until his sixth and final jump to record his winner. After fouling three jumps, Cineus jumped 13.29 meters on his fifth jump. Following that up, he would surpass his previous jump of 13.96 meters and secure the win for him.
The 4x400 meter relay team closed out the meet and the week with a win and a weekly award being named the conference relay team of the week. The relay team of Ryan Williams (Malverne, N.Y./Valley Stream North), Blake Jandreau (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall), Kevin Leach-Brown (Bronx, N.Y./Mount St. Michael Academy), and Jordany Dely (Spring Valley, N.Y./Paramus Catholic) crossed in 3:20.59 winning the event for the blue and gold.
The team now returns to Connecticut for their final regular season meet and their Senior day Meet at Southern Connecticut State competing at the Jim Barber & Jack Maloney Tri-Meet next weekend. That will be the final meet ahead of the Conference Championships that is now only two weeks away.
