Before the University of New Haven women's lacrosse program starts their Northeast-10 Conference Championship run, they must finish off their regular season getting by two opponents: Saint Michael's and Bentley.
Inside the Series
The Chargers have not came up empty of a win when playing the Purple Knights since 2007. As a matter of fact the New Haven-Saint Mike's series started back in 2006 where the Chargers dropped both contests in 2006, then also their 2007 meeting. But from then on, it's been smooth sailing for the Blue and Gold who have won their last 12.
Scouting the Purple Knights (1-13, 0-11 NE10)
Saint Michael's opened their 2022 campaign at Post, winning 10-6. However, that has been their only victory so far this season. Minus their first game and their mot recent game, a 20-10 tumble to the American International Yellow Jackets, Saint Mike's has struggled to even get their goal column to double digits. On average, they're able to score 4.86 per game but leading the team in scoring is Catie Murphy with 19 on the season.
Erin Stolz and Addy Fenton each put up 10 while assisting four and two goals, respectively. Other than that, the Purple Knights have 12 other players who have contributed single-digit goals throughout their 14 game season.
Scouting the Chargers (10-5, 6-5 NE10)
After a going 2-0 last week with wins over Assumption and Saint Anselm, three Chargers were recognized by the NE10 conference. Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) defended the net like no other and earned Goalkeeper of the Week for the third time this season. She had 10 saves in New Haven's big win over Assumption, then matched her career-high 18 saves with Saint Anselm.
For the third time in her 2022 collegiate debut, freshman Raegan Bailey (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) is this weeks Rookie of the Week. Her offensive spark carried New Haven to be 2-0 on last week with her nine goals. She scored six, including the game winner, on Wednesday then went onto Saturday to score three more times.
Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) secured Defensive Player of the Week for her 19 draw controls, five caused turnovers, and two goals.
On the road, New Haven is 5-1 and hope to use their momentum from two wins at home to ignite a hot streak before entering championship play.
