Following a second half rally, with a third quarter that featured eight goals, New Haven came out on top over Saint Michael's earning their third consecutive win. Now the Blue and Gold must continue their fire in their final regular-season meeting of the 2022 season.
Inside the Series
The New Haven-Bentley history is almost spilt, with the Chargers holding a one game advantage. Back in 2018 when the two schools met, New Haven started their lead early and ended up securing their ninth win over the Falcons, 9-8. Since then, the Blue and Gold have come up empty handed, including a 13-14 loss in overtime in 2019.
New Haven hopes to regain status at the Bentley University Turf Field on Saturday in their regular season finale.
Scouting the Falcons (7-7, 6-6)
After dropping both games last week, to Adelphi and Le Moyne, the Falcons found themselves in Manchester, N.H. for a meeting with No. 23 Saint Anselm. Five second half goals put Bentley up by one as the clock ran down, when the buzzer sounded their record on the season improved to a split 7-7 overall and a 6-6 conference record.
Sophomore Maeve Johnson helped the Falcons in their victory by scoring two late goals, which broke a 7-7 tie. She has scored 43 points this season, on 31 goals and 12 assists, and is shooting with 72.5 percent accuracy on goal. Johnson leads Bentley in points and goals, she is second in terms of assists.
Bentley so far this season has taken 322 shots in just 14 games, in comparison to New Haven who has played 16 contests and put up just 19 more shots. The Falcons average 12.79 goals scored per game which is almost exact of the Chargers, 12.81.
When New Haven visits Bentley for their last regular-season contender, it will be Bentley's final home game of the season.
Scouting the Chargers (11-5, 7-5 NE10)
Picking up right where they left off, NE10 honorees Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) and Raegan Bailey (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) helped lead New Haven to their third straight victory, expelling an eight-goal third quarter.
For the fourth time this season, Bailey shot six into the back of the net. On Wednesday not only was she the games leading scorer but she also caused two turnovers, won two draw controls, and went 2-for-3 on free position shots.
Caprioli continued to be a beast in the circle winning 12 draw controls for the Blue and Gold. In addition, she scooped four ground balls, scored a single goal, and caused one turnover.
For the past two, Buscemi has only allowed the opposing team to score in the single-digits. Against No. 20 Saint Anselm six got by the sophomore, and now nine after the Chargers trip to Saint Michael's. She only faced 18 shots this time around, translating to a season-low of four saves.
