NEW ORLEANS, La. – Following an outdoor season that included scoring the most points in program history at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, the Chargers secured eight United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors with those distinctions presented to nine individual student-athletes for a total of 11 accolades.
Highlighting the honors for the men's track and field team was a trio of student-athletes who all earned the distinction in the 110-meter hurdle event as the group all finished the spring season top-four in the east region in the short hurdles. Sophomore Jordany Dely (Spring Valley, N.Y./Paramus Catholic) led the trio, finishing the year with the best time among all east region runners with his NE10 Championship time of 14.48, breaking the school record set in 1996 by Marcus Walton (14.53).
Joining Dely in earning the honor in the 110 hurdles was rookie Jordan Emile (/) and senior Abdiel Tejada. Emile also saw his best time in the event come at the NE10 Championships where he finished with a time of 14.90 which closed out the spring as the fourth fastest in the region. Tejada finished one spot above him in the regional rankings with his best time coming one week later t the New England Championships where he finished with a mark of 14.53.
Dely was also one of two Chargers to earn a pair of All-Region honors following the outdoor season with his second coming as a member of the 4x400-meter relay team where he was joined by Ryan Williams (Malverne, N.Y./Valley Stream North), Blake Jandreau (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall) and Kevin Leach Brown. The quad saw their best time of the year come at the NE10 Championships where they took home title honors with a time of 3:15.82, which also set an NCAA provisional mark and was the second fastest of the spring season in the East Region.
In addition to Dely, Leach Brown was also a double All-Region recipient with his individual award coming in the 400-meter run where he closed out the spring with the fifth fastest time in the East with his NE10 Championship finish of 48.53, taking home third place honors in the event.
A pair of jumpers also picked up All-Region honors with senior Jonathan Cineus (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) earning the distinction in the triple jump and freshman Zerion Montgomery (/) earning the accolade in the long jump. Montgomery, who was also named the NE10 Outdoor Rookie of the Year, finished the spring with the third longest distance with his season-best coming at the Jim Barber & Jack Maloney Invitational with a leap of 7.21 meters (23' 8"). A week later, he also finished as the runner-up at the NE10 Championship.
Cineus also picked up an NCAA Division II provisional mark when he scored his best performance of the season at the New England Championships with a distance of 114.72 meters (48' 3.5"), a personal best and just shy of the school record (14.87m) set in 2015.
Rounding out the All-Region honors was Cole Parker (Severn, MD/Annapolis Area Christian School) who scored the honor as a multi in the decathlon where he finished the year with a school record 5,370 points which was the fifth most in the East Region. That performance came at the NE10 Championship where he finished fourth overall, while also taking home the top honors in two of the 10 legs of the decathlon, the 100-meter dash and the long jump.
