MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Just four tenths of a second separated the top two finishers with New Haven cross country's Will Brown edging out the lead runner from Amherst to take first place accolades at the season open Wesleyan Cardinals Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at The West Fuhrman '05 Trails Cross Country Course.

Brown finished the 6k course in a time of 19:04.6 which narrowly edged out Amherst rookie Henry Dennen. Overall, Brown led New Haven to a third place finish in the field of seven teams from Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Following Brown in leading the Blue and Gold was freshman Mohammed Abunar (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbill) who closed out his first career race in 12th place overall with a time of 19:43.5. One other Charger would finish among the top-25 in the field, Jacob Carson (Seymour, Conn./Notre Dame (West Haven)) who closed out the course in a time of 20:29.5 for 25th place.

Following Carson was Dathan Chan and James Comisky (Milford, Mass./Milford) who finished back-to-back in 30th and 31st with times of 20:46.8 and 20:48.3, respectively. Another pair of Chargers finished back-to-back with Jonathan Parmelee (Piscataway, N.J./Saint Joseph) and Daniel Barbero closing out the course 36th and 37th in the scoring, finishing just over four seconds apart.

The Chargers will return to the course two weekends from now when they head to New Britain, Conn. for the long-standing Ted Owen Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State University. Festivities at Stanley Quarter Park are scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start.
