THE LEAD
Coming off of their first NE10 win over the season, the New Haven women's soccer team will play its second-straight at home as they look to score back-to-back wins when they host the Saint Anselm Hawks on Saturday at Kathy Zolad Stadium. Opening kickoff against the Setters is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY VS SAINT ANSELM
New Haven and Saint Anselm have met 22 times prior to Saturday afternoon with the all-time series slightly in favor of the Hawks at9-10-3 overall. The Hawks have had the better hand the last few years, winning four of the last five, with other game in that stretch a 2-2 draw. Prior to that, the Chargers had won five straight and seven of the previous eight combined. The Chargers have had the edge when playing on their home turf where they hold a 7-3-1 record in West Haven.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (3-4-2, 1-3 NE10)
New Haven is looking for its first back-to-back wins of the season on Saturday when they welcome Saint Anselm, with the first in that stretch a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Pace on Wednesday afternoon in West Haven. All of the credit against the Setters belongs to senior Madison Blonde (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) who drilled both goals on the day, erasing the deficit and netting the game-winner with under three minutes to play. Adding those two goals to one in a September 3 win over STAC and Blonde leads the team with three goals on the year, while four other players have all scored at least once. On the helping since, freshman Ashlee Crumrine (Bristol, Conn./Bristol) leads the team with a pair of assists, while five other players have all provided an assist. In goal, graduate transfer goalkeeper Amanda McQuillan has played every minute between the pipes making 39 saves on the season and finishing a pair of games in shutout fashion. McQuillan comes to West Haven from Central Connecticut where she wrapped up her time in New Britain with a 1.09 goals-against-average, eight shutouts and 64 saves last season.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS (6-2, 2-2 NE10)
Saint Anselm rides a two-game win streak into this afternoon's game, those being the Hawks first two wins in NE10 play after dropping decisions to Pace and Franklin Pierce prior. The two NE10 wins came against Le Moyne and Saint Michaels. Overall for the season, the Hawks stand at 6-2 after opening up the year a perfect 4-0 before the NE10 opening loss to Pace. For the season, Saint Anselm is outscoring its opponents 16-9, with 11 different players getting in on the scoring action. Leading the way overall is sophomore forward Josie Pecor who has scored a trio of goals, two in the season opener against Holy Family and one in the last game against Saint Michaels. Pecor leads all scorers overall with nine points, adding a trio of assists as well. Following her in leading the team is junior forward Olivia Gotobed who has seven points on two goals and three assists. In goal, freshman keeper Emma Hudson has played all but 12 minutes on the year, collecting 35 saves and allowing eight goals.
THE SCHEDULE
The New Haven women's soccer team will play an 18-game schedule in 2022 with half of those games to take place at the friendly confines of Kathy Zolad Stadium. In addition to the two opening neutral site games at Pace, the Charges will play three more non-conference games before opening league play against American International on Saturday, September 10. The three non-conference tests before league action includes a trip to Holy Family and home games against STAC and Bloomfield. The 2022 NE10 schedule will consist of 12 games, with the top eight teams among the 13 league squads, advancing to the NE10 Championship which is scheduled to begin on Sunday, October 30.
UP NEXT
Despite being away from home for its next game, the Chargers will be close to home traveling just 10 minutes from campus to take on crosstown rival Southern Connecticut on Tuesday night in New Haven. That game is the lone one splitting up a series of four home games over a five-game stretch as the Chargers will return to Zolad for back-to-back home games starting next Saturday. For its next game at SCSU, opening kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Jess Dow Field and fans unable to make it to the game can catch all the action live on the Charger Sports Network, part of NE10 NOW.
