THE LEAD
Nearly a month into the season, the New Haven field hockey team will finally make its debut on the Blue and Gold turf of DellaCamera Stadium on Tuesday when they go under the lights to take on the Pace Setters in an NE10 match-up with the contest scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY VS PACE
New Haven and Pace meet for the fifth time in the all-time series, with the Setters holding a 3-1 edge in the previous four match-ups. New Haven broke through for its first win in the series last season when they picked up a 1-0 decision on the Setters home turf. Prior to that, Pace had outscored New Haven 16-1 in the first three games in the series.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (1-4, 1-0 NE10)
The New Haven field hockey team proved that playing a tough non-conference schedule to open up the season pays off when they opened up Northeast-10 Conference play with a 1-0 win over Saint Michael's this past weekend. The lone goal in that game came from graduate student Sophie Schreck (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) as she broke the stalemate in the second quarter with that lone goal holding out for goalkeeper Keira Integlia's (Branford, Conn./Branford) first shutout of the season. Schreck's goal against the Purple Knights was her second of the season, tying her with senior Zharria John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) for the team lead, while sophomore Johanna Lee has one goal to her credit. In addition, a pair of Chargers have recorded two assists apiece with graduate student Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) and sophomore Abby Nixon (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) leading the way in that column. In the cage, Integlia has played every minute, collecting 36 saves to her credit.
SCOUTING THE SETTERS (3-3, 0-1 NE10)
After wrapping up non-conference play with a 2-3 record, the Setters dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 6 Saint Anselm in its NE10 opener which came on the Setters Pleasantville, N.Y. campus. For the season, Pace has matched its opponents perfectly with 11 goals apiece. Overall, eight different players have found the back of the cage, with a trio of players leading the team with two goals apiece; Kriste Dietz, Julia Eshleman and Noelle Meij. Among all players, Dietz leads the team with six points adding two assists to her two goals. In the cage, Alina Buerger has played every minute for the Setters, collecting 36 saves.
THE SCHEDULE
The New Haven field hockey team will play an 18-game schedule in 2022 with seven of those games to take place at the friendly confines of Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium. The Chargers will spend nearly the full month of September away from home, playing their first five games on the road before making their home field debut on September 27 against Pace. That home opener is the first of three straight at DellaCamera for the Charger, the last of which is the fifth and final non-conference game against East Stroudsburg. Overall, New Haven will play 13 conference games with the top eight teams following the regular season advancing to the NE10 Championship which will begin on Tuesday, November 15.
CHARGERS SIXTH IN NE10 COACHES POLL
Following its most successful season in program history, the University of New Haven field hockey team has been picked to finish sixth in the 2022 Northeast-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Chargers received 105 points, the most they have earned in the preseason poll, keeping them inside of the top-10 for the second straight season. Assumption earned the top billing, scoring 10 of the 14 possible first place points for a total of 165 points. Saint Anselm and Bentley follow to close out the top-three, with Saint Anselm earning the remaining first place votes and 154 points and Bentley third with 140 points.  Rounding out the top-five was Adelphi with 134 points and Pace with 127 points.
