WHAT'S ON TAP
After spending the last 10 days on the road, the New Haven women's basketball team returns to West Haven looking to right ship and break a five-game skid against crosstown rival Southern Connecticut State University in the Battle of the Elm City.

SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
Looking for their first victory of 2023, New Haven needs to rely on a defense that is holding opponents to just 61.5 points per game, while keeping confidence in their shooting ability that is currently 29th best in the nation as they are connecting on 44.3 percent of their attempts. Leading the efforts is graduate guard Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) who is averaging 15.8 points per game, fifth in the NE10, including a career-high 30 points in the season opener against Georgian Court. Her co-captain Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) has both offense and defense on her mind as she is second on the team averaging 14.2 ppg, while one of two players in the NE10 who is averaging a double double as she is pulling down 10.8 rebounds per outing, second best in the NE10. In addition, Deshaies leads all NE10 players and is fourth in the nation with her 66% shooting percentage (82-of-124) with all of her points coming from inside the three-point arc. Rounding out the leading scorers for the Blue and Gold is senior point guard Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) who is averaging 11.1 ppg, while leading the team with 57 assists, with her 4.8 assists per game average second best in the conference. Defensively, it is senior guard Marigona Bacaliu (Worcester, Mass./Putnam Science Academy) who leads the team with 25 steals, while New Haven has 111 on the year and has turned the 237 turnovers they have forced into 190 points, including 25+ in two games, against Bloomfield (29) and Franklin Pierce (28).

SCOUTING SCSU
Winners in four of their last five games, the Owls currently stand fourth in the Northeast-10 as we approach the midway point of the league schedule. As a team, the Owls have put an emphasis on defense with much of their success riding on holding opponents to just 53.7 points per game, second best in the league defensively. On the opposite end, they are outscoring their opponents by nine points per game, while shooting 42 percent from the field and outrebounding their opponents by just shy of seven per game. Individually, Zoe Amalbert leads the team and is one of three players in double figures with her 13.6 points per game average. In addition, she leads the team with 69 assists and 23 steals and is the Owls biggest outside shooting threat. Following her in leading the offense is Katie Williamson and Isabella Santoro who average 11.7 and 10.0 ppg, respectively, while Williamson is the leading rebounder at 7.3 per game.

Using just a nine-person rotation, all 71 points against the Owls came from the starting five, with Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) leading the team with 18 points while adding six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Center Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) followed DeBose with 17 points while closing out the game with a double double adding 10 rebounds. As a team, the Chargers finished the game shooting 49.1 percent from the field, connecting on 28-of-57, with eight of those field goals coming from outside the arc.
