Chargers Take Home 3 Weekly Awards

MANSFIELD, Mass. – With the turn of the calendar year, the University of New Haven's Women's Track and Field Team picked up right where they left off from 2022 claiming three weekly conference awards. Kalaya Fitch (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) was named Track Rookie of the Week, Gabriel Teel was named Field Rookie of the Week and the 4x200 meter Relay team took home relay of the week.

 

The women's team broke the Coast Guard Academy facility record in the 4x200 relay as the team of Savannah Sistrunk (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences), Daphna Gerber (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South), Kalaya Fitch (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) and Deja Harris crossed in a time of 1:49.52 breaking the previous facility record of 1:52.12 that was set it 1998 winning the team the event and relay of the week. 

 

Kalaya Fitch (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) was named Track Rookie of the week. A member of the 4x200 relay team, Fitch also finished second overall in the 400 meter crossing with a time of 1:03.16on her way to winning Track Rookie of the week.

 

Gabrielle Teel (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) was named Field Rookie of the week after finishing second in both the long jump and triple jump. In long jump, Teel finished with a mark of 5.02 meters and finished with a mark of 11.02 meters in the triple jump.

The Chargers return home now before another busy weekend of two meets as the teams return to the track on Friday January 20th when they travel to the Armory Track in New York to compete at the Ramapo Season Opener before they head again to Southern Connecticut State on Sunday January 22  to compete at the William Sutherland Invitational.
