THE LEAD
After storming back from an incredible 27-point deficit to take down the conference leading Bentley Falcons on Wednesday night in Waltham, the Chargers return home for a single game as they welcome the Pace Setters for a weekend battle on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
In the midst of an 11-game NE10 stretch, New Haven relies heavily on its starting five who are all averaging more than 30 minutes per game, with three of the five averaging in double figures and the five combined providing 88% of the total scoring (963-of-1,123 total points). Leading the team individually is senior transfer Ty Perry (Boston, Mass./Brighton) who is averaging 15.3 ppg, sixth best in the NE10. He is followed closely by both graduate guard Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) and junior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) at 14.6 and 13.6 ppg, respectively. Rounding out the starting five is Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial High School) and Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./) who average 9.2 and 8.4 ppg, respectively. Among the five, Majak leads the team and the NE10 with an impressive 70.0 percent (56-of-80) shooting from the field, while Lane is also among the best in the league at 52.1 percent (88-of-169). Majak is also the NE10's leading shot blocker with 52 stuffed attempts, which also ranks him third nationally in total blocks.

SCOUTING THE SETTERS
After rattling off eight straight wins, including three in overtime or double overtime, the Setters dropped their last two games against Assumption and Saint Michael's, a pair of teams on the lower end of the conference standings. Defensively, the Setters have been among the best in the league all season, holding their opponents to 65.8 points per game, currently fourth lowest in the NE10. On the flip side, the Setters are averaging 70.6 ppg as a team, and shooting at a 45% clip (499-1,119). Individually, it's a pair of brothers that lead the way for the Setters with Brandon Powell leading the team with a 16.1 ppg average, while his brother Bryan is next up at 13.9 ppg. Bryan is also among the leaders in rebounding with his 5.4 rebounds per game average, while leading the team with 22 blocks.

SERIES HISTORY vs PACE

·         New Haven and Pace meet for the 35th time in the history of the two programs.

·         New Haven holds a 19-15 advantage in the previous 34 games, including a series of 13-of-15 that stretched the 2010's

·         Pace is currently riding a four-game streak into today's contest, sweeping the home-and-home series in both 2019-20 and 2021-22.

·         Last season, Pace averaged 26.5 points more than the Chargers in sweeping the series, limiting New Haven to an average of just 46.5 points across the two games.

AT OUR BEST AGAINST THE BEST
With its last three victories, New Haven has proven that it can handle playing against the best teams in the Northeast-10 Conference with wins over Southern Connecticut (58-51), Saint Anselm (72-63) and Bentley (60-59) all giving New Haven great standing in the league heading down the stretch. In those three games alone, the Chargers held the conference foes to just 57.7 points per game, while shooting 42 percent from the field.

NEXT TIME OUT
After spending the last couple of weeks playing teams in conference play for their only time they will meet this season, the Chargers now look ahead to opponents they have met already once in conference play with a visit to Adelphi next up and the first of three-straight road games for New Haven. Tip-off in the rematch against the Panthers is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City. New Haven won the first meeting between the two squads, 82-64 back on November 19. All of the action will be available live on NE10 NOW.
