THE LEAD
Going for another season sweep this weekend as we head to Worcester to take on Assumption Saturday afternoon. With three NE10 games remaining in the regular season, every game matters as we stand one-game out of a four-way tie for first place heading down the stretch. Opening tip in the NE10 battle is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
With the final game of an 11-game NE10 stretch on the horizon this afternoon, New Haven relies heavily on its starting five who are all averaging more than 30 minutes per game, with three of the five averaging in double figures and the five combined providing 86% of the total scoring (1,284-of-1,495 total points). Leading the team individually is graduate guard Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) who has scored in double figures in all but one game this season, moving into the lead with his 15.0 ppg average. In addition, Lane leads the team with 81 assists and 35 steals. Following Lane is senior transfer Ty Perry (Boston, Mass./Brighton) who is averaging 14.7 ppg. Junior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) rounds out the top three with a 12.5 ppg average, including leading the team from beyond the arc with 55 three pointers. Rounding out the starting five is Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial High School) and Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./) who average 9.4 and 7.5 ppg, respectively. Among the five, Majak leads the team and the NE10 with an impressive 64.5 percent (69-of-107) shooting from the field, while Lane is also among the best in the league at 54.0 percent (121-of-224). Majak is also the NE10's leading shot blocker with 65 stuffed attempts, which also ranks him third nationally in total blocks.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
Winners of their last three and six of their last seven, the Greyhounds look to maintain that win streak heading into the penultimate weekend regular season game in order to improve their positioning in the NE10 standings. For the season, the Greyhounds are averaging 70.9 points per game, while surrendering 70.4 ppg to their opponents. Individually, four players are averaging in double figures with junior guard Isiah Gaiter leading the team with his 15.3 ppg average, while also leading the way in rebounding (8.0 per game) and with 77 total assists. Njavan Stewart follows Gaiter with a 13.6 ppg average, with Kani Glover (11.0) and Cooper Creek (10.5) rounding out the leading scorers.

SERIES HISTORY vs ASSUMPTION

·         New Haven and Assumption meet for the 28th time in the history of the two programs.

·         With the win earlier this season, New Haven improved its record in the all-time series to 17-10 in the previous 27 meetings.

·         The win earlier this year was also the 10th straight against the Greyhounds, with each of the last two games being decided by just a single point between the two teams.

·         Under head coach Ted Hotaling, the Chargers have had a lot of success against Assumption, entering this weekend with a 12-3 record.

EARLIER THIS SEASON VS THE GREYHOUNDS
Survival of the fittest in the first meeting against the Greyhounds with the Chargers scoring a 74-73 win to remain unbeaten on their home court. Finishing game with a season-best 60.4 percent shooting effort (29-of-48), New haven was led by graduate guard Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) who closed out the night with 19 points and six assists. The guard finished 8-of-10 from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the three point arc. Following him in leading the Chargers was transfer guard Ty Perry (Boston, Mass./Brighton) and senior Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial High School) who finished with 17 and 13 points, respectively. Olawoye was also tied in leading New Haven with eight rebounds, matching Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./) in that category as the big man in the center added three blocks.

NEXT TIME OUT
The Chargers will take a quick break from NE10 play when they return home and take the court against the Dolphins of Staten Island in the final non-conference game of the season. The Wednesday night battle against the ECC foe is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff with all of the action available live on the Charger Sports Network part of NE10 NOW.
