WHAT'S ON TAP
Winners of their last nine games, the Chargers will put that streak to the test on Saturday when they take on a team that has been the pride of the NE10 the majority of the season and enter the weekend ranked No. 18 in the nation according to the WBCA, Assumption. The Chargers at Greyhounds are scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. tipoff at Laska Gymnasium with all of the action available on NE10 NOW.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
Looking to extend a win streak that is already the longest in the tenure of Coach Buff, currently at nine-straight, New Haven needs to continue to rely on a defense that is holding opponents to just 57.7 points per game, while keeping confidence in its shooting where it is currently 20th in NCAA Division II with its 45.0 percent from the field. Leading the way is Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) who is averaging 16.0 points per game, fifth in the NE10, including a career-high 30 points in the season opener against Georgian Court. Her co-captain Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) has both offense and defense on her mind as she is second on the team averaging 13.5 ppg, while one of two players in the NE10 who is averaging a double double as she is pulling down 10.5 rebounds per outing, second best in the NE10. In addition, Deshaies leads all NE10 players and is sixth in the nation with her 62% shooting percentage (133-of-215) with all of her points coming from inside the three-point arc. Rounding out the leading scorers for the Blue and Gold is senior point guard Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) who is averaging 10.6 ppg, while leading the team with 101 assists, with her 4.8 assists per game average second in the conference and 25th best in the nation.
SCOUTING ASSUMPTION
A team that has been at the top of the NE10 standings almost the entire season, until recently, and ranked No. 18 in the nation according to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, the Greyhounds have struggled of recent, losing two of their last three games with the losses to AIC and Le Moyne. For the season, the Greyhounds are averaging 63.5 points per game, fifth highest in the NE10, while they lead the conference with their 49.8 ppg allowed. Individually, the Greyhounds five starters are all averaging 8.6 or more points per game, with the leader Molly Stoke the only player in double figures at 11.7 ppg.Â
SERIES HISTORY vs ASSUMPTION
·        New Haven and Assumption meet for the 39th time in the history of the two programs.
·        Assumption holds a 28-10 record in the previous 38 games, including winning the last three meetings.
·        New Haven opened up the series winning the first three meetings, once each in three-straight seasons starting in 1986-87.
·        Last season, the Greyhounds took a 10 point win in the first meeting between the two teams since prior to the CoVID-19 shutdown.
·        The Greyhounds also took the first meeting this season, which came back in December in Charger Gym.
LAST TIME VS THE GREYHOUNDS
Senior Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) and junior Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) each finished with a baker's dozen 13 points as the Chargers dropped a 55-42 defensive battle against the then undefeated Assumption Greyhounds in the final game before holiday break. Deshaies closed out the game with her sixth double double of the season, pulling down a team best 11 rebounds, while her 13 points came on 6-of-7 shooting. As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 34 percent overall, connecting on 17-of-50 from the field. Among those 17 buckets were a trio of three pointers, all of which came from Stickle, including a halfcourt buzzer beater that sent the teams into the locker room at the halftime break separated by six points.
WE'RE GOING STREAKING
The Chargers are currently in the midst of a nine-game win streak as they head into the NE10 road game at Assumption. The set of nine straight wins is the longest such streak under the leadership of head coach Debbie Buff, with the previous a seven-game streak during her inaugural season at the helm, 2018-19. It is also the longest since the Chargers won nine-straight back in 2014-15, a season where they finished 26-6 overall and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight. In the current nine game win streak, the Chargers are outscoring their opponents by 9.0 ppg and out rebounding them by 9.0 per game, while shooting 46%, 211-of-456.

The Chargers will again take a short break from NE10 play, this time for their final non-conference game of the season when they welcome the Dolphins of Staten Island to West Haven.
