WHAT'S ON TAP
After wrapping up the homestand a perfect 3-0, the New Haven women's basketball team heads on the road for its next two games, with a quick break from Northeast-10 play next up on the docket when the Chargers visit the City of Brotherly Love to take on Chestnut Hill on Thursday night. Tipoff from Sorgenti Arena is set for 6:00 p.m. with all of the action available live on the CACC Network.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
Looking to extend a win streak that is already the longest in the tenure of Coach Buff, currently at eight-straight, New Haven needs to continue to rely on a defense that is holding opponents to just 58.1 points per game, while keeping confidence in its shooting where it is currently 15th in NCAA Division II with its 45.3 percent from the field. Leading the way is Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) who is averaging 16.0 points per game, fifth in the NE10, including a career-high 30 points in the season opener against Georgian Court. Her co-captain Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) has both offense and defense on her mind as she is second on the team averaging 13.7 ppg, while one of two players in the NE10 who is averaging a double double as she is pulling down 10.3 rebounds per outing, second best in the NE10. In addition, Deshaies leads all NE10 players and is fourth in the nation with her 63% shooting percentage (129-of-204) with all of her points coming from inside the three-point arc. Rounding out the leading scorers for the Blue and Gold is senior point guard Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) who is averaging 10.4 ppg, while leading the team with 99 assists, with her 5.0 assists per game average leading the conference and 14th best in the nation.
SCOUTING CHESTNUT HILL
One of three teams in the CACC with double digit wins, the Griffins enter Thursday night's non-conference game with a five-game win streak in tow, with their last loss all the way back on January 17. Overall for the season, Chestnut Hill sports a 15-7 overall record and a 10-3 mark in the CACC. The Griffins have been a strong defensive team, holding their opponents to just 53.9 points per game, while outscoring their opponents by more than eight points per game. Individually it is Emily Chmiel who leads the team in both scoring and rebounding with her 9.6 ppg and 5.6 rpg averages. The post player is shooting 49.7 percent (81-of-163) from the field, while also leading the team with 21 blocks.
SERIES HISTORY vs CHESTNUT HILL
·        New Haven and Chestnut Hill meet for the fifth time in the history of the two programs.
·        In the previous four games, the Chargers and Griffins are split evenly with four wins apiece.
·        The Griffins opened up the series with a win and took that meeting last season by a 66-61 margin
·        New Haven won the middle two games, including the last game on the Griffins home court, 66-64 in December 2019
LAST TIME VS CHESTNUT HILL
In its final game before the holiday break, the Chargers dropped a 66-61 non-conference decision against the Golden Griffins. Leading the Chargers on the night was Briana Van Cleaf (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) who finished with 19 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field, with four those baskets from outside the three point arc. She also pulled down eight boards. Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) and Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) joined her in double figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively, while Deshaies completed the double double with a game-high 11 rebounds.
WE'RE GOING STREAKING
The Chargers are currently in the midst of an eight -game win streak as they head into the non-conference road game at Chestnut Hill. The set of eight straight wins is the longest such streak under the leadership of head coach Debbie Buff, with the previous a seven-game streak during her inaugural season at the helm, 2018-19. It is also the longest since the Chargers won nine-straight back in 2014-15, a season where they finished 26-6 overall and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight. In the current eight game win streak, the Chargers are outscoring their opponents by 9.3 ppg and out rebounding them by 11.0 per game, while shooting just shy of 50%, 191-of-405.

The Chargers have a big game on the docket when they travel to Worcester, Mass. for a rematch with the Assumption Greyhounds on Saturday, February 11. The team to beat in the NE10, Assumption entered the week ranked No. 18 in the WBCA Coaches weekly Division II top-25 poll.
