MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Returning to the track, The University of New Haven Men's and Women's Track and Field Team stayed in the Nutmeg state as they traveled up to Wesleyan College to compete at the Wesleyan Invitational.
Savannah Sistrunk (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences) finished second overall in the women's 60m dash crossing with a final time of 8.00 after shaving .11 second off her prelim time when she crossed in 8.11.
Kalaya Fitch (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) finished second overall in the 200m dash crossing with the second-fastest time of 27.19.
Niquelle Johnson (Trumbull, Conn./Northeastern Academy) finished third overall in the 400m dash running a time of 1:04.17.
Emily Mazzucco (East Haven, Conn./East Haven) finished second overall in the 800m finishing with a time of 2:36.35.
The blue and gold finished second and third in the 1000m as Bernadette Karpel (New Haven, Conn./Hillhouse) edged teammate Angelina Schilling (Sewell, N.J./Deptford Township) as Karpel ran the second fastest time of 3:22.32 ahead of Schilling's third fastest time of 3:22.46.
Jada Kamtha (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust High School for Girls) ran the third fastest time in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.40. After running a qualifying time in the prelims of 9.56, Kamtha shaved .16 seconds to take home third place. Kamtha followed up the finish in the hurdles with a win in the pit as the freshmen won the long jump on her fifth jump landing a mark of 5.14m to win the event.
The women's 4x400m relay team of Kalaya Fitch (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial), Micaela Owen (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross), Deja Harris, and Niquelle Johnson (Trumbull, Conn./Northeastern Academy) took home the win for the blue and gold with a time of 4:17.16.
Molly Clark (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) finished second overall in the Pole Vault. After clearing the opening height of 2.55m on her first attempt Clark cleared 2.70m with ease on her first attempt as well earning her the second-best mark for the meet.
Gabrielle Teel (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) took home a win for the blue and gold in the Triple Jump as Teel opened up with a mark of 11.53m before jumping the winning mark of 11.65m on her third jump earning her the win and the blue and gold third of the meet. This jump was an NCAA provisional mark and moved Teel into the top spot in the NE10 and second in the East Regional.
Isabelle Robinson (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) continued to dominate in the circle finishing second overall in the shot put with a mark of 11.08m that came on her second throw to move her up the leaderboard for the meet.
Anita Hodge (Fords, N.J./Woodbridge) finished second overall in the weight throw as she improved upon each of her marks on each throw before on her final attempt landing a mark of 13.24m to land her in second place.
On the Men's side, Joshua Stewart (Madison, Conn./Hand) won the men's 60m dash. After running the third fastest time of prelims, running a 7.25, Stewart shaved .21 seconds off his time running a 7.04 to take the win in the event.
Daniel Barberio (Leland, N.C./Holy Trinity Diocesan) ran the second fastest time in the 1000m crossing in 2:41.73.
Mohammed Abunar (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) also won for the blue and gold winning the 3000m winning with a time of 8:54.67.
William Brown (Middletown, Pa./Middletown Area) ran the fastest time in the 5000m crossing with a winning time of 16:06.57.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Joshua Stewart (Madison, Conn./Hand), Jordan Emile (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton), Nile Colson (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute), and Caleb Agbor (Haverhill, Mass./North Andover) finished third overall with a time of 3:38.55.
The Chargers finished first and third in the Pole Vault and Declan McGrellis (Frederica, Md./Frederica) took home the win clearing a height of 3.95m as teammate Cole Parker (Severn, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) finished third clearing a height of 3.50m
Akin Akinwunmi (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) finished third overall in the triple jump, jumping his best mark on his very first jump with a mark of 12.30m to land him on the leaderboard.
Jonah Aguiar () finished second overall in shot put as Aguiar built upon his mark on each throw before on his fifth throw Aguiar threw 14.07m climbing up the leaderboard into second place.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Nathaniel Peters (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton), Christopher Gregory, Jason Lorent (Shelton, Conn./Shelton), and Jordany Dely (Spring Valley, N.Y./Paramus Catholic) competed at the UMASS Lowell Riverhawk Invitational and the team ran a 3:23.30 setting the New Haven 4x400m relay record for the blue and gold.
After the dominant performance, the Chargers have a week to prepare for a single meet week, as they travel to Boston next week to compete at the Bruce Lehan Scarlet and White Meet hosted by Boston University on February 3 beginning at 10:00 am.
