NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Coming off their strong finish at the conference championships, the University of New Haven Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams had one final meet ahead of the New England Championships this time staying local and competing at the SCSU Last Chance Meet.
Savannah Sistrunk (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences) took home the Chargers' first win of the meet in the 55m dash as the senior ran the fastest time in the prelims crossing in 7.37 before following that up with a winning time in the finals running a 7.38 to win the opening event.
Nile Colson (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) finished second overall in the 55m dash crossing with a final time of 6.59 shaving off .03 second from his second place prelim time of 6.62.
In the men's 55m hurdles, Jordany Dely (Spring Valley, N.Y./Paramus Catholic) and Jordan Emile (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) paced one another as Dely ran the fastest time of prelims crossing in 7.61 ahead of Emile's time of 7.73. In the finals Dely once again set the pace crossing with the fastest time of 7.56 as Emile finished third crossing in 7.72.
On the women's side, the blue and gold finished one, two in the 55m hurdles as Jada Kamtha (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust High School for Girls) ran the fastest time of prelims (8.34) before winning in the finals crossing in 8.38. Teammate Aniya Bush (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) crossed with the third fastest time in prelims but shaved .26 seconds off in the finals running an 8.60 to finish second to Kamtha.
Sarah Rutledge () and Gabriella Abruzzo (North Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) finished second and third in the 800m as Rutledge finished with the second fastest time if 2:44.28 ahead of Abruzzo who crossed in 3:11.81.
Michael Celatka (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) finished with the second fastest mile time running a 4:46.62 in the event.
Isabelle Robinson (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) finished second overall in shot put with a throw of 11.73m that came on her final throw finishing her above teammate Alanah Weaver (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) who finished third overall with a mark of 10.98m
Jacky Marescot (Spring Valley, N.Y./Ramapo) finished second overall in triple jump with a mark of 13.43m coming in ahead of his teammate Luis Calderon () who finished third overall with a jump of 13.12m.
Gabrielle Tell finished third overall in the triple jump, with a jump of 11.83m on her final jump of the event.
In the men's weight throw the Chargers finished second and third as Jimmy Oreste (Jamaica, N.Y.) finished second overall with a mark of 16.89m and teammate Carlos Rivera (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) finished third overall with his mark of 14.20m.
The Chargers wrapped up the meet with a first and third finish in the women's weigh throw and Jalynn McCown (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) took home the win in the event with a throw of 14.28m as Isabelle Robinson (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) finished third overall with a mark of 13.46m.
With all their hard work complete the blue and gold eye the stage at New England's next week as the Chargers go up against the best athletes of New England. The Chargers return to The Track at New Balance in Boston, Mass on Friday, March 1 for the opening day of the event and conclude on Saturday, March 2.
