Chargers Dominate on the Track: Men and Women each Finish 2nd Overall

MAHWAH, New Jersey. –  The University of New Haven Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams traveled to New Jersey to compete at the Ramapo College Track and Field Invitational Meet where the Chargers continued their hot start to the outdoor season as both on the track and in the field the blue and gold found themselves leading the competition.

 

A pair of  Chargers finished top two in the women's 100m hurdles as Jada Kamtha (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust High School for Girls) took home the win , crossing in 15.01 ahead of teammate Aniya Bush (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) who finished third with a time of 16.33.

 

The women's 4x100m relay team of Aniya Bush (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown), Jada Kamtha (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust High School for Girls), Kalaya Fitch (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial), and Savannah Sistrunk (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences) took home the win, running the fastest time of the meet crossing in 49.42.

 

Staying with the relays, the women's 4x400m relay team also took home the win as Niquelle Johnson (Trumbull, Conn./Northeastern Academy), Deja Harris, Micaela Owen (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross), and Kalaya Fitch (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) ran a winning time of 4:11.35.

 

Molly Clark (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) finished third overall in Pole Vault, as Clark cleared the third highest mark, 2.60m.

 

Kristen Washington (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) returned to the top spot in the long jump edging teammate Jada Kamtha (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust High School for Girls) as Washington jumped a meet best 5.89m to take the win as Kamtha jumped the third best mark of 5.39m.

 

The Chargers would finish one, two in the Triple Jump as Kristen Washington (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) claimed her second win of the meet jumping 12.13m to finish first besting teammate Gabrielle Teel (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) who finished second jumping 11.65m

 

Anita Hodge (Fords, N.J./Woodbridge) took the Chargers fifth win of the meet in the Discus Throw where Hodge threw a best mark of 38.54m.

 

Jalynn McCown (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) finished third overall in the Hammer Throw finishing with a final mark of 43.49m

 

On the Men's side, Jordany Dely (Spring Valley, N.Y./Paramus Catholic) got his day started with a third place finish in the 400m dash crossing with a final time of 51.26.

 

In the 110m Hurdles after claiming the first and third fastest times, the Chargers would sweep the event as Jordany Dely (Spring Valley, N.Y./Paramus Catholic), Jordan Emile (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton), and Christopher Gregory would go one, two three respectively running, 14.73, 14.92, and 15.32.

 

Emile would go on and add a second place finish in the 400m Hurdles crossing in 57.47.

 

The men's 4x100m relay team of Kenneth Holland (Circleville, N.Y./Pine Bush), Jordany Dely (Spring Valley, N.Y./Paramus Catholic), Nile Colson (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute), and Jason Lorent (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) took home the win in the event crossing with a final time of 42.17.

 

Nathaniel Peters (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) finished second overall in the high jump clearing 1.89m.

 

Declan McGrellis (Frederica, Md./Frederica) finished third overall in Pole Vault clearing a final height of 3.85m

 

In the sad pit the Chargers finished second and third in the long jump as Jacky Marescot (Spring Valley, N.Y./Ramapo) finished second with a mark of 6.95m ahead of teammate Cole Parker (Severn, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) who finished third with a mark of 6.92m.

 

The success continued in the pit as Jonathan Cineus (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) finished third overall in the Triple Jump with a final mark of 13.83m.

 

Richard Fortune () finished second overall in the discus throw with a mark of 45.18m

 

Overall both the men's and women's teams finished second overall as the Women scored a combined 142 points and the men scored 114 points. The Chargers now return to Connecticut as they prepare for their next meet across the street when they travel to Southern Connecticut State University to compete at the Wilton Wright Invitational on Saturday April 6th.
