NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After a successful meet in New Jersey a week ago, the University of New Haven Men's and Women's Track and Field team went back to work closer to home taking the short drive across town to compete at the Wilton Wright Outdoor Invitational hosted by Southern Connecticut State University.
Savannah Sistrunk (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences) led the way with a pair of wins on the afternoon. In her opening event, Sistrunk took home the win in the 100m dash crossing with a winning time of 12.42. She added her second win of the meet in the 200m dash when she ran a winning time of 25.59.
Kristen Washington (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) took home the win in the sand pit, where she jumped a winning mark of 5.92m.
Jada Kamtha (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust High School for Girls) added a pair of second-place finishes, finishing second overall in the 100m crossing in 12.44 and, finished second in the 100m hurdles where she crossed in 14.67.
Jordan Emile (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) finished second overall in the 110m Hurdles crossing with a winning time of 15.32.
Richard Fortune () took home the win in the Discuss throw with a winning mark of 41.92m.
Jalynn McCown (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) finished third overall in the hammer throw with a final best throw of 43.99m that came on her second throw.
The blue and gold finished second and third in the men's long jump as Jackson Marescot (Spring Valley, N.Y./Ramapo) finished second overall with a mark of 6.81m ahead of teammate Cole Parker (Severn, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) who jumped 6.72m to finish third overall.
In men's pole vault the Chargers took home second and third-place finishes as Cole Parker (Severn, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) cleared 3.95m on his first attempt ahead of teammate Declan McGrellis (Frederica, Md./Frederica) who also cleared 3.95m on his first attempt but cleared 3.80m on his third attempt.
Anita Hodge (Fords, N.J./Woodbridge) finished second overall in the women's discus throw, as she threw a best mark of 37.08m.
Jackson Marescot (Spring Valley, N.Y./Ramapo) took home the win in the triple jump continuing the success in the sand pit with a winning jump of 13.91m and beating teammate Jonathan Cineus (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) who finished third overall with a jump of 13.73m
The men's 4x100m relay team of Kenneth Holland (Circleville, N.Y./Pine Bush), Jordany Dely (Spring Valley, N.Y./Paramus Catholic), Nile Colson (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute), and Jason Lorent (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) took home the win for the blue and gold running a winning time of 42.59.
The teams will remain in the nutmeg state as they return to the track on April 12-13 when they travel to New London, Connecticut to compete at the Silfen Invitational Track meet that begins on Friday at 10:00 a.m. All updates, schedules, and post-game recaps for the team will be available at Newhavenchargers.com.
