NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After a split weekend the University of New Haven Men's Track and Field Team returned to the track competing for a conference crown at the Northeast 10 Conference Championships as they made the short drive to Southern Connecticut State University for the meet.
Kenneth Holland (Circleville, N.Y./Pine Bush) ran a personal best in the 100m dash to earn four points for the blue and gold, after running a 10.86 in prelims, Holland shaved .01 off in the finals crossing with the fifth fastest time of 10.85.
In the 110m Hurdles, the blue and gold claimed 11 points as Jordan Emile (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) and Christopher Gregory each ran personal bests in the event as Emile finished fourth crossing in 14.78 ahead of Gregory who finished fifth overall running 14.98. Jordany Dely (Spring Valley, N.Y./Paramus Catholic) added two points in the event for New Haven finishing in 15.57 for a seventh place finish.
Emile added a fourth place finish in the 400m hurdles running a personal best of 54.81 to earn five points for the blue and gold.
In the 400m the Chargers claimed six points as Christopher Gregory finished fifth overall crossing in 49.15 ahead of teammate Nathaniel Peters (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) finished seventh overall running a season best crossing in 50.82 earning a pair of points.
Mohammed Abunar (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) finished eighth overall in the 10000 earning one point crossing in 32:53.32.
Richard Fortune () had the fourth best throw in discus as he earned five points with a mark of 44.46m in the event.
Jimmy Oreste (Jamaica, N.Y.) added a pair of points with a seventh place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.99m finishing ahead of teammate J'Quan Athis (New Haven, Conn./Hillhouse) who threw a season best of 43.19m finishing eighth and earning a point.
Cole Parker (Severn, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) jumped a personal record in the high jump to claim the gold as Parker cleared 1.98m in the event. The blue and gold would add three more finishes in the event as Jacky Marescot (Spring Valley, N.Y./Ramapo) finished sixth overall clearing 1.88m ahead of his brother Jackson Marescot (Spring Valley, N.Y./Ramapo) in seventh clearing 1.83m as Nathaniel Peters (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) finished eighth clearing 1.83m.
The blue and gold continued to dominate the field events, as Jacky Marescot (Spring Valley, N.Y./Ramapo) took home the gold jumping a personal record in the long jump with a mark of 7.19m as Kenneth Holland (Circleville, N.Y./Pine Bush) would take home the bronze medal, jumping 7.05m. Jackson Marescot (Spring Valley, N.Y./Ramapo) finished fourth overall jumping 6.96m, Jonathan Cineus (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) finished seventh with a mark of 6.86m and matthew Steele finished eighth jumping 6.72m.
The Chargers finished third and fourth in the pole vault as Cole Parker (Severn, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) cleared 4.05m ahead of Dewclan McGrellis who cleared 3.90m in fourth.
J'Quan Athis (New Haven, Conn./Hillhouse) threw a season best in shot put throwing 14.94m earning three points for New Haven.
The sand pit continued to be the home for the Chargers as they claimed all but three points in the triple jump. Jacky Marescot (Spring Valley, N.Y./Ramapo) took home his second gold medal of the afternoon jumping a personal record in the event with a mark of 14.38m. Jacky Marescot (Spring Valley, N.Y./Ramapo) bested his brother Jackson who finished second winning silver with a mark of 14.33m. Jonathan Cineus (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) completed the podium sweep with a season best of 14.24m to take home the bronze. Matthew Steele (North Kingstown, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) finished fourth with a mark of 14.13m, Kenneth Holland (Circleville, N.Y./Pine Bush) finished fifth with a mark of 13.94, Akin Akinwunmi (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) finished seventh with a mark of 13.55m and Luis Calderon () finished eighth with a mark of 13.09m.
The 4x100m relay team of Kenneth Holland (Circleville, N.Y./Pine Bush), Jordany Dely (Spring Valley, N.Y./Paramus Catholic), Nile Colson (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute), and Jason Lorent (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) took home the silver medal crossing in 41.89.
The 4x400m relay team of Ryan Williams (Malverne, N.Y./Valley Stream North), Nathaniel Peters (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton), Jordan Emile (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton), and Christopher Gregory took home the silver medal with a time of 3:21.36.
Overall the Chargers compiled 146 points and finished third overall as the blue and gold claimed three gold medals leading the way including a sweep of the podium in the triple jump.
With strong performances against the conference, the Chargers now prepare for the New England Championships in a week when they compete against the best in the region at Hart Turf Field and Track in Worcester, Massachusetts with the first day beginning on Friday, May 10 and the final day on Saturday May 11.
