NEW YORK, N.Y. – With the season in full gear, the University of New Haven Men's and Women's Track and Field team were back to work opening up their weekend in New York at the Ramapo Invitational where the Chargers were put to the test.

Jordan Emile (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) and Amir Phelmetto (/) continued to set the standard on the track in the hurdles. In the 60m hurdles, Emile ran the fastest time in the prelims qualifying for the finals with a time of 8.44, ahead of Phelmetto who finished second overall with a time of 8.61. The duo moved into the finals with the best times, and improved their times as Emile once again was the fastest crossing with a winning time of 8.24, as Phelmetto finished third overall with a time of 8.47.

D'Jior Delisser (/) finished second overall in the women's long jump. Delisser opened up the event with a mark of 5.47m but would go on and best that mark in her fourth attempt, jumping 5.49m and finishing second overall.

Gabrielle Teel (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) finished second overall in the women's triple jump as the Chargers continued to stand out in the pit, with a mark of 11.71m. Teel, who opened up with a jump of 11.36m, built up her mark, and on her sixth jump, had her best landing the mark of 11.71m to secure second place.

In the men's triple jump Matthew Steele (North Kingstown, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) had a season best mark on his final jump of the meet. Opening up with a jump of 13.30m, Steele progressed further and further before having his best mark of the season on his final jump, jumping 14.00m to finish third overall.

With one meet down, New Haven has a quick turn around as they return to the track at the Coast Guard Invitational in New London, Connecticut, on Saturday January 18. All updates, post meet recaps, and postseason news for the team will be available at Newhavenchargers.com.
