Blue and Gold Cover Leaderboard at Wesleyan Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The work continued for the University of New Haven Men's and Women's Track and Field teams as they stayed closer to home going up north to Middletown, Connecticut to compete at the Wesleyan, January Indoor Invite.

 

Kicking off the meet Wilnye Joseph (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck) took home second place in the women's high jump clearing 1.52m just edging out teammate Isabella Bostic (Saint Johnsbury, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) who finished third clearing 1.52m as well.

 

Molly Clark (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) finished second overall in the women's pole vault clearing 2.95m.

 

Declan McGrellis (Frederica, Md./Frederica) got the men's team on the podium in pole vault, clearing 3.85m to take home third place.

 

In the sand pit, Sereana Vulaona finished second overall in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.20m.

 

Luis Calderon (/) kept the success going in the sand pit in the men's triple jump with the second best mark of the meet, 13.09m.

 

On the track, Aniya Bush (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) took home second in the women's 60m hurdles. After running the second fastest time of the preliminaries, 9.63, Bush shaved time off running  9.29 in the finals to finish second overall.

 

In the 60m dash, Wilnye Joseph (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck) added her second top finish of the meet in the women's 60m dash. Running the third fastest time in the prelims, 8.31, Joseph bested that time crossing in 8.19 in the finals to finish third overall.

 

On the men's side, Trevor Rawlinson (/) finished third overall in the men's 60m dash. After running the third fastest prelim time, 7.16, Rawlinson shaved .03 off his time to run a 7.13 in the finals and finish third overall.

 

Elijah Espinal (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) finished third overall in the men's 600m run, crossing in 1:28.03.

 

Christina Crowley finished third overall in the women's 800m run, crossing in 2:36.12.

 

Elsie Kaas (Elverson, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) finished third overall in the women's 1000m run crossing in 3:20.66.

 

Noah Hurd (Wrentham, Mass./King Philip Regional) finished second overall in the men's 1000m run crossing in 2:43.03, and just beating teammate Connor Knee (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) who finished third overall, crossing in 2:44.81.

 

In the women's 200m dash, Christina Crowley finished second overall, crossing in 27.47, and just beating out Wilnye Joseph (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck) who finished third with a time of 27.55.

 

The women's 4x800m relay team took home the win crossing with a combined time of 10:49.39.

 

The men's 4x800m relay team finished second overall running a combined time of 8:46.51.

 

In the women's mile, Angelina Schilling (Sewell, N.J./Deptford Township) finished second overall in 5:44.37.

 

In the men's mile, Mohammed Abunar (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) took home the win in the mile running a winning time of 4:35.28.

 

On Friday, members of the Chargers traveled to the Armory Track to compete at the Dr. Sander Scorcher hosted by Columbia University. 

 

Joshua Stewart (Madison, Conn./Hand) finished fifth overall in the men's 60m open crossing in 7.036.

 

In the men's 60m hurdles open, Christopher Gregory (/) finished sixth overall with a time of 8.74.

 

Matthew Steel in the sand pit finished sixth overall in the men's triple jump invitational with his best mark coming on his second jump, 13.92m.


Compared to the start of the month jumping right into double meets, the University of New Haven Men's and Women's Track and Field will close out the month and open February up with a single meet, as they travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts to compete at the Harvard Invitational. The meet kicks off on Friday, January 31, before concluding on Saturday February 1.  All updates, post meet recaps, and postseason news for the team will be available at Newhavenchargers.com.
