WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The United Soccer Coaches today announced its first regional rankings of the year, with New Haven Men's Soccer ranked ninth in the Northeast Region Poll.
Just two games into its first season at the Division I level, New Haven Men's Soccer finds itself as a top-10 team in the Northeast region.
The Blue & Gold collected its first-ever Division I win over Monmouth on the road on Thursday, Aug. 21. The 2-1 win over the Hawks featured a highlight-reel goal from Lukian Lawro (Albertson, N.Y./Mineola), the first score of any kind for New Haven as a Division I institution, and the game-winner from Ryan Kipness (Stamford, Conn./Westhill). Kipness' goal wound up earning him NEC Player of the Week honors.
In game two, Lawro and the Chargers announced their presence on the national stage with authority. Lawro scored a goal of the year candidate in the first half at reigning Big East Runner-Up Providence. The bicycle kick was shown on SportsCenter as the top play worldwide on Aug. 26.
New Haven continues its season at Dartmouth on Friday, August 29.
