WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The NEC announced its weekly award winners on Tuesday afternoon, featuring New Haven Women's Basketball's
Aniya McDonald-Perry (Middletown, Conn./Putnam Science Academy) as Player of the Week. McDonald-Perry is the second consecutive Charger to earn the award, following
Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) last week.
McDonald-Perry powered New Haven to its first win in Division I on Friday, Jan. 2, with a 23-point, seven-rebound effort, playing all 40 minutes. The Middletown, Conn. native set season highs in points, minutes, and blocks (three) in the win. In what was her most efficient game shooting, McDonald-Perry went 11-13 (84.2%) from the floor.
Following up that performance was another stellar outing in New Haven's 70-51 win over Central Connecticut on Sunday. McDonald-Perry shot a perfect 10-10 from the field and sank both free throws, en route to 22 points in the win. The forward also pulled down 11 rebounds, giving her her fifth double-double of the season, and it marked the 10th time in 13 games she finished with multiple steals.
New Haven will host the Le Moyne College Dolphins on Thursday, Jan. 8, continuing its home stand. Tip-off between the Chargers and Dolphins will arrive at 6:00 p.m.
