Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Excel at Fairfield University Invitational

The University of New Haven men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Fairfield University Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The men’s team captured fourth place (79), behind Fairfield (26), UCONN (53), and Wagner (58), while the women’s team took third (79), following Fairfield (26) and Wagner (36) in the event.

Samuel Montclair (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) led the way for the Chargers on the men’s side, placing 13th in the competition. He finished with a time of 27:30 (5:32 average mile), granting the squad just 13 points. Timothy Nohelty (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) and Jacob McAndrew (West Haven, Conn./Oswego) followed Montclair closely, taking 15th and 19th in the race.

Several other members put forth strong showings including, Ryan Freitas (Elk Grove, Calif./Franklin) (20th), Patrick Leach (28th), Sergey Lukashenko (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) (29th), Michael Barile (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) (31st), Marvin Azor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Science Skills Center) (32nd) and Kevin Jalbert (Milford, Conn./Platt Technical ) (37th).

In the women’s competition, Lauren DiMitruck (Kensington, Conn./Iona College) had a fantastic performance in the invite. DiMitruck collected eighth place with a time of 20:25 (6:35 average mile), tacking on just eight points for the Chargers. Tania Bernardino (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) finished next crossing the line with a time of 21:23, while Bridget Faria (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) completed the event with a time of 21:23.

In addition, Hillary Bauer (Orefield, Pa./Parkland ) (23rd), Shannon Hall (Levant, Maine/Hermon) (28th), Emily Andrews (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) (32nd) and Janeska Cardona (/) (33rd) all performed well in the Chargers first competition of the season.

UNH returns to action on September 25th with the Victor Leeber Invitational. This event will also take place at Fairfield University.
