OPENING TIP
New Haven women's basketball will return home for a key midweek regional matchup against Saint Anselm on Wednesday evening at Charger Gymnasium. Opening tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
The matchup will pit the Chargers top-scoring defense in the Northeast-10, against the Hawks No. 2 rated offense. Both teams are also the top two rebounding squads in the conference.
INSIDE THE SERIES
- New Haven (12-13 all-time) has won two matchups in a row against the Hawks to draw within one game of .500 in the all-time series. Two years ago at home, the Chargers pulled out a 57-54 win on a three pointer by Alex Kerr with 2.5 seconds left, off an assist from then-freshman
Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington). New Haven then held on for a 63-59 win last year in Manchester.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
- The Chargers will put their 11-game home court winning streak on the line on Wednesday when they welcome Saint Anselm to Charger Gymnasium. The Chargers put forth a 1-1 effort last week with a 53-40 upset win over then-No. 19 Bentley on Tuesday, before falling 63-45 at Stonehill on Saturday.
- Following a 10-1 start, the second-best start through 11 games in program history, the Chargers are 2-3 over their last five games and 1-1 against nationally-ranked opponents during that span.
- New Haven has ridden its defense to being one of the top teams in the Northeast-10 standings. The Chargers lead the NE10 and rank eighth nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 52.5 points per game. The Chargers also lead the conference in FG% defense (.339) and rank sixth in holding the opposition to just .288 percent from three-point range.
- Offensively, the Chargers are averaging 59.3 points per game, good for 13th in the NE10.
- The Chargers have climbed to sixth in the conference by shooting 42.7 percent overall and are shooting 30.5 percent from the arc, which sits ninth in the NE10.
- Senior
Micah Wormack (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) leads the team in scoring (13.1) and is second in rebounding (6.4). She scored a season-high 27 points at American International on Dec. 10 and dropped 24 at Saint Michael's on Jan. 11. She had a season-high 14-rebound, five-block performance against Le Moyne on Nov. 23.
- Freshman
Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) ranks second in the NE10 in field goal percentage at 57.4 percent (85-for-148). She is second on the team with 11.8 points and leads the team with 7.1 rebounds per game.
- Sophomore
Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) is third on the team with 9.6 ppg. She is second on the squad with 30.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) is fourth in the NE10 with a .426 3FG percentage. She also averages 4.0 assists per game, fifth in the NE10. She is averaging 9.4 points per game, fourth on the team.
- Redshirt sophomore point guard
Luzdali Ocasio (Davenport, Fla./New Hampton) is sixth in the NE10 and second on the team with 3.9 assists per game. She had a career-high 10 assists at Chestnut Hill on December 11.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- The Hawks enter Wednesday at 11-4 overall and a 7-2 mark in NE10 play, good for second in the Northeast Division.
- Saint Anselm is second in the NE10 with 77.4 points per game (31st in the nation) and is 10th in scoring defense, allowing 64.3 points per contest.
- The Hawks boast the top two scoring leaders in the NE10 in senior forward Shannon Ryan (22.6 ppg) and junior guard Payton Steinman (18.9 ppg). Ryan is also the conference's top rebounder, averaging 14.7 boards per game.
- Saint Anselm leads the NE10 and ranks 29th in the country with a .453 field goal percentage and leads the NE10 (14th nationally) with a rebounding margin of +10.5, the only team ranked ahead of New Haven in that category.
- The Hawks lead the NE10 with 4.7 blocks per game, led by Ryan who leads the conference individually with 2.4 blocks per game.

The Chargers 75 points at Saint Michael's on Jan. 11 was a season-high. It was the first time New Haven topped the 70-point plateau in just over one calendar year - January 2, 2019 against Dominican.
UPSET CENTRAL
The Chargers' win over No. 19 Bentley was their first win over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 13 Stonehill 58-57 on March 16, 2015 in the NCAA East Region Championship finals.
HOME COOKING
New Haven has won 11 consecutive home games dating back to last season, their longest streak at home since they won 12 straight at Charger Gymnasium during the 2014-15 season.
LOCKDOWN DEFENSE
The Chargers allowed a season-low 40 points to No. 19 Bentley on Tuesday, marking the seventh time this season the team has held an opponent to under 50 points in a game - Bridgeport (42), Bloomfield (47), Le Moyne (49), Southern Connecticut (48), Saint Rose (48), Goldey-Beacom (43) and No. 19 Bentley (40). New Haven holds the NE10's best scoring defense (51.8).
CRASHING THE BOARDS
New Haven has yet to be outrebounded this season, outrebounding its opponents in 14 games, and drawing even with Pace and Stonehill. New Haven's +8.2 rebounding margin is second in the NE10.
