WESTFIELD, Mass. – In its final tune up ahead of the NE10 Championships, junior
Alli Kenealy (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) finished 18th overall among a field of 179 runners to lead the Chargers at the James Early Invitational hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park. Kenealy's finish helped New Haven to a ninth place finish overall among a field of 24 teams.
The junior long distance runner posted an overall time of 19:27.4 with a mile average of 6:15.7. The remaining four scorers for the Blue and Gold all finished in a pack, within two seconds of each other. Junior
Hannah Swain (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South) would cross the line second for the Chargers with a time of 20:34.5 with a pair of freshman on her heels.
Rookie
Serena Hutchison (Kendall Park,N.J./South Brunswick) and
Isabella Bostic (Saint Johnsbury, Vt./Saint Johnsbury Academy) followed Swain finishing in 63rd and 65th place, respectively. Hutchison finished one tenth of a second behind Swain with a time of 20:34.5 while Bostic followed at 20:35.0.
Rounding out the top-five for New Haven was senior
Nicolette Maselli (Avon-by-the-Sea, N.J./Spotswood) who finished one position behind Bostic with a time of 20:36.4.
The Chargers will return to the course in two weekend's time when they travel to Manchester, N.H. to take part in the 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Championship hosted by Saint Anselm College on a course among the South Athletic Fields. The women's race of the 2021 Championships is scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start.
