WHAT'S ON TAP
One last time before taking an 18-day break. The Chargers welcome one of the 10 undefeated teams remaining in all of NCAA Division II when they host Assumption for the final game in the first portion of the 2022-23 schedule. This test for the Chargers is the first of two meetings against the Greyhounds as they will meet again in February.

SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
Defense wins games! It has been a yearly goal to hold opponents to a low scoring output and this year is no different as the Chargers enter Tuesday night limiting their opponents to just 59.5 points per game, second best in the NE10. On the flip side, New Haven enters Tuesday night as the No. 2 offense in the Northeast-10 averaging 70.3 points per game, just shy of a point lower than their opponent this evening, Assumption. In addition, New Haven is leading all NE10 teams with their 9.5 rebounds per game average.  Leading those efforts is graduate guard Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) who is averaging 18.5 points per game, second in the NE10, including a career-high 30 points in the season opener against Georgian Court. Her co-captain Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) has both offense and defense on her mind as she is second on the team averaging 14.3 ppg, while one of three players in the NE10 who is averaging a double double as she is pulling down a conference best 10.9 rebounds per outing. In addition, Deshaies leads all NE10 players with her 65% shooting percentage (51-of-79) with all of her points coming from inside the three-point arc. Rounding out the leading scorers for the Blue and Gold is senior point guard Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) who is averaging 12.3 ppg, while leading the team with 35 assists, with her 4.4 assists per game average second best in the conference. Defensively, it is senior guard Marigona Bacaliu (Worcester, Mass./Putnam Science Academy) who leads the team with 22 steals, while New Haven has 77 on the year and has turned the 138 turnovers they have forced into 149 points, including 20 last time out against Saint Michael's.

SCOUTING ASSUMPTION
Bringing a perfect 8-0 record, including 4-0 in the NE10, into Charger Gymnasium, the Greyhounds are the only undefeated team in the conference with three teams trailing them with one defeat on the year. For the season, the Greyhounds are averaging 71.1 points per game and outscoring their opponents by more than 21 points as they hold their opposition to just 49.6 ppg. Despite the high scoring offense of the Greyhounds, just one player is averaging double figures for 27th year head coach Kerry Phayre and that is junior guard Molly Stokes who is averaging 14.8 ppg after scoring just 23 points total in 15 games last season. For the year, Stokes is shooting 49.4 percent, including a team-best 29 three pointers. As a team, a quarter of the Greyhounds field goals have come from outside the three-point arc, with an average of 7.4 per game.

SERIES HISTORY vs ASSUMPTION

·         New Haven and Assumption meet for the 38th time in the history of the two programs.

·         Assumption holds a 27-10 record in the previous 37 games, including winning the last two meetings.

·         New Haven opened up the series winning the first three meetings, once each in three-straight seasons starting in 1986-87.

·         Last season, the Greyhounds took a 10-point win in the first meeting between the two teams since prior to the CoVID-19 shutdown.

LAST TIME THEY MET
Despite a 10-point game that kept the Chargers winless in NE10 play at the time, a bright spot for the Blue and Gold was Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) who finished with a career-high, at the time, 24 points on 11-of-16 shooting while pulling down 12 boards. It was her 10th game of the season with double digit boards and her fifth double double. Following her in leading the team was Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) with nine points. As a team, New Haven shot 33.9 percent from the field, making 19-of-56 field goal attempts with three buckets from long range.

NEXT TIME OUT
The Chargers will take the next two-plus weeks off before returning to the hardwood to close out the calendar year with a New Year's Eve conference contest against Le Moyne. The battle with the Dolphins is the second of three straight at home for New Haven who will not play away from their home court until a week into 2023. Tip-off in the New Year's Eve game against Le Moyne is set for 1:30 p.m. as the first part of a doubleheader with the men's team. All of the action will be available live on the Charger Sports Network on NE10 NOW.
