MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's cross country team kicked off its 2022 season on Saturday, September 10 when they took part in the Wesleyan Cardinals Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at The West Fuhrman '05 Trails Cross Country Course.
Overall, the Chargers finished sixth out of six teams competing with sophomore Isabella Bostic (Saint Johnsbury, Vt./Saint Johnsbury Academy) leading the Blue and Gold. Bostic finished the 5k course in 33rd place overall, 27th in the scoring, with her time of 21:00.6.
Senior Alli Kenealy (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) followed Bostic as the second place finisher New Haven, closing out the course in a time of 21:45.6 to finished 32nd in the scoring. Rounding out the Chargers top three was freshman Elsie Kaas (Elverson, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) who finished eight spots behind Kenealy overall with a time of 22:19.3.
Another rookie followed in fourth place for New Haven, Rina Stanghellini (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) who finished 55th overall with a time of 22:33.1, while senior Da-Xia Colon rounds out the top-five in 65th overall with a time of 23:19.8.
The Chargers will return to the course two weekends from now when they head to New Britain, Conn. for the long-standing Ted Owen Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State University. Festivities at Stanley Quarter Park are scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start.
