WHAT'S ON TAP
With just three games remaining in the regular season, the Chargers look to get back in the win column after having their nine-game win streak snapped last time out at Assumption. This time around, the Chargers will host the ECC's Staten Island Dolphins in the final non-conference game of the season. Tipoff against the Dolphins is slated for 5:30 p.m.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
Looking for its 10th win in the last 11 games, New Haven needs to continue to rely on a defense that is holding opponents to just 57.8 points per game, while keeping confidence in its shooting where it is currently 28th in NCAA Division II with its 44.3 percent from the field. Leading the way is Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) who is averaging 15.7 points per game, seventh in the NE10, including a career-high 30 points in the season opener against Georgian Court. Her co-captain Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) has both offense and defense on her mind as she is second on the team averaging 13.4 ppg, while one of two players in the NE10 who is averaging a double double as she is pulling down 10.4 rebounds per outing, second best in the NE10. In addition, Deshaies leads all NE10 players and is sixth in the nation with her 62% shooting percentage (139-of-226) with all of her points coming from inside the three-point arc. Rounding out the leading scorers for the Blue and Gold is senior point guard Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) who is averaging 10.3 ppg, while leading the team with 102 assists, with her 4.6 assists per game average second in the conference and 34th best in the nation.
SCOUTING STATEN ISLAND
A team that currently stands in the bottom third of the ECC women's basketball standings, Staten Island is looking to get back in the win column for what would be their third victory in the last four games. For the season, the Dolphins are being outscored by 3.5 points per game, averaging 58.3 ppg as a team, while surrendering 61.9 ppg. The Dolphins put up a significant amount of shot attempts, however, are converting just 36.9 percent of their attempts, including just 30% from beyond the three point arc. Individually, Staten Island is led by Jenalyse Alarcon who is averaging 11.1 points per game as a post player, while also leading the team on the boards with her 8.9 per game average. She has also dished out 50 assists, second most on the team, and leads the team in steals (32) and blocks (25).
SERIES HISTORY vs STATEN ISLAND
·        New Haven and Staten Island meet for the third time in the history of the two programs.
·        The Chargers are unbeaten against the ECC rival.
·        The series began as a home-and-home in the first half of the 2019-20 season with New Haven taking a 68-57 home victory.
·        After the CoVID-19 shutdown delayed the series, the teams picked it back up last season with the Chargers taking a 72-64 OT victory on Staten Island.
