WHAT'S ON TAP
Entering the final weekend of the regular season, the Chargers head to Syracuse upset minded as they face a surging Le Moyne Dolphins who currently hold the top spot in the regular season standings. Tip-off in the key NE10 battle is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Ted Grant Court.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN
Looking for its 11th win in the last 12 games, New Haven needs to continue to rely on a defense that is holding opponents to just 57.6 points per game, while keeping confidence in its shooting where it is currently 27th in NCAA Division II with its 44.3 percent from the field. Leading the way is Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) who is averaging 16.2 points per game, fifth in the NE10, including a career-high 30 points in the season opener against Georgian Court. Her co-captain Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) has both offense and defense on her mind as she is second on the team averaging 13.2 ppg, while one of two players in the NE10 who is averaging a double double as she is pulling down 10.5 rebounds per outing, second best in the NE10. In addition, Deshaies leads all NE10 players and is sixth in the nation with her 62% shooting percentage (143-of-231) with all of her points coming from inside the three-point arc. Rounding out the leading scorers for the Blue and Gold is senior point guard Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) who is averaging 10.2 ppg, while leading the team with 108 assists, with her 4.7 assists per game average second in the conference and 28th best in the nation.
SCOUTING LE MOYNE
Winners of its last 10 straight and 15 of its last 16, the Le Moyne Dolphins have vaulted up the conference standings passing Assumption for the lead spot heading into its final regular season game this afternoon against New Haven. For the season, the Dolphins are second in the NE10 in scoring offense with their average of 66.2 points per game, while holding opponents to 10 points less than that average which is the fourth best in the conference. Individually, four of the Dolphin starters are averaging in double figures with senior guard Lytoya Baker leading the quad as the only other NE10 player (other than Deshaies) to average a double double with 12.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Baker is also second on the team with 74 assists and 49 steals. Following her in the scoring column is Haedyn Roberts (12.4 ppg), Sydney Lusher (11.1 ppg) and Kaia Goode (10.4 ppg).
SERIES HISTORY vs LE MOYNE
·        New Haven and Le Moyne meet for the 40th time in the history of the two programs.
·        Le Moyne holds a 22-17 record in the previous 39 games, including winning the last three meetings.
·        Le Moyne opened up the series with an impressive streak, winning nine of the first 10 games before New Haven took over winning the next five straight.
·        Including that five-game streak, the Chargers would go on to win 14 of the next 17 games in the series.Â
·        Last season, the Dolphins swept the home-and-home series and took the first meeting this year extending their current streak to four-straight over the Chargers.
LAST TIME VS THE DOLPHINS
Coming off of an 18 day break, the Chargers dropped a 57-44 decision to Le Moyne to close out the 2022 portion of its schedule. Leading the Blue and Gold on the day was senior post Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden), the only Charger in double figures, as she completed a double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Deshaies led all players in the game from the floor where she connected on 6-of-8 , while also going 2-of-2 at the free throw line. Following her in leading UNH was graduate guard Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) who chipped in eight points. Overall, New Haven finished the game shooting 34 percent (18-of-53), with four of those 18 field goals coming from outside the three-point arc.
NEXT TIME OUT
The Chargers will put a bow on its regular season next time it takes the court, hosting the Saint Anselm Hawks at Charger Gymnasium for the regular season-finale on Tuesday night. Both teams will enter the finale looking to solidify their positioning in the postseason seedings. In what will be a doubleheader with the men's team, the Chargers are scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff with all of the action available on the Charger Sports Network on NE10 NOW.
