MANSFIELD, Mass. – Just two weeks into the 2023 season for the New Haven baseball team and a Chargers has picked up a second Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week honor with Owen Pincince (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) the newest Charger to join the ranks, earning his first collegiate honor.
The outfielder started all four games for New Haven in the three-day series against the Purple Knights, finishing the weekend with seven hits across 13 at bats for a .528 batting average. He also drove in five runs, including one on a solo homer, his first collegiate long ball.
He opened up the weekend with a pair of hits and drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the series opener against the Purple Knights, helping the Chargers to an 8-0 shutout. Combined in the doubleheader on Saturday, Pincince finished 4-of-6 at the place with his solo homer coming in the opener and then driving in the Chargers first run in the nigh cap in the second inning. He then closed out the three-day series with an RBI, going 1-of-4 at the plate as the Chargers completed the series sweep with a 9-4 early morning victory.
For the season, Pincince leads the Chargers with a .487 batting average, scattering 11 hits across 23 at bats. Additionally, he has driven in six runs and scored five times, while also registering three walks and successfully swiping a base on his only attempt.
Pincince and the Chargers will return to action in the Sunshine State when they travel to Boca Raton for five games over Spring Break, with the first game of the trip coming on Friday, March 10 against Bloomfield.
