FULL RESULTS
DARTMOUTH, Mass. – With their second race in as many weeks, the New Haven women's cross country team competed in a deep field at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, as a team finishing 30th overall in a field of 37 teams.
Leading the way individually for the second week in a row was sophomore Elsie Kaas (Elverson, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) who shaved nearly a minute off of her time from a week ago to finish 80th overall among a field of 280 runners. Kaas finished the 5k course in a time of 19:47.4.
Following Kaas rookie Bernadette Karpel (New Haven, Conn./Hillhouse) who saw an even larger improvement week over week, shaving 1:55 off her time from Wesleyan to close out the Dartmouth College course in a time of 22:18.8 and 188th among the full field. Rounding out the top three for the Blue and Gold was sophomore Jennifer Torres who closed out the course in a time of 23:38.8, taking just shy of 90 seconds off her time from the first week.
Continuing the trend of improvement was sophomore Gabriella Abruzzo (North Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) who finished fourth overall for New Haven as she closed out the course in a time of 25:41.8, 239th overall, taking a full two minutes off her time from Wesleyan. Rounding out the Chargers five for the day was another freshman, Audri Pettirossi () who saw the biggest improvement from the first week, taking nearly three minutes off her previous time to finish 260th among the full field in a time of 28:19.6.
The Chargers will take the next three weeks to prepare for their next event which will be a return to the Bay State for the James Early Invitational in Westfield, Mass. on Saturday, October 7. The race will also provide an opportunity for the Blue and Gold to run the course that will also serve as the home of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship later in October.
