BOSTON, Mass. – With a quick turnaround, the University of New Haven Men's and Women's Track and Field teams were back to work as they traveled to Boston to compete against top competition at the UMASS Flagship Invitational.
In the men's 60m hurdles, it was Jordany Dely (Spring Valley, N.Y./Paramus Catholic) setting the pace in the preliminaries, running the fastest time of 8.17, and teammate Jordan Emile (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) finished third crossing in 8.43, as both moved on to the finals of the event. On Saturday, it was Emile beating Dely in the finals, but on Sunday it was Dely again setting the standard as Dely would win, shaving .15 seconds off his time from the prelims, winning the finals with a time of 8.02. Emile would move up, also besting his prelim time and finishing second overall with a time of 8.17.
Coming off breaking the school record, Jimmy Oreste (Jamaica, N.Y./) returned to the circle and finished second overall in the weight throw, as Oreste landed a mark of 16.90m.
In the sand pit, it was Nile Love (Wheatley Heights, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East), finishing third overall in the men's triple jump, as Love jumped his best mark on his second jump of the event and would be the third best of the meet.
In the men's 4x400m relay, the team of Christopher Gregory (/), Jordan Emile (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton), Jordany Dely (Spring Valley, N.Y./Paramus Catholic), and Amir Phelmetto (/), finished third overall crossing with a combined time of 3:19.53.
With the new year underway and three meets complete, the teams continue to work towards the Northeast 10 Championships. The busy weekends continue for both teams as they have another pair of meets as the weekend begins on Friday, January 17 when they travel to New York to compete at the Ramapo Season Opener, and Saturday the Chargers remain in Connecticut when they travel to the Coast Guard Invitation in New London, Connecticut on Saturday, January 18.
