GILBERT, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association has announced that New Haven freshman Katie Durkee (Salem, Conn./East Lyme) has been recognized as a Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division II Scholar of Distinction. The honor recognizes student-athletes who achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher through the Fall 2019 semester.

Durkee is one of 89 student-athletes nationwide to earn the honor. She is a biology major, concentrating in cellular and molecular biology, and finished the fall semester with a 4.0 grade-point average.
As a team this past fall semester, the Chargers amassed a 3.39 GPA.

Tuesday's announcement is the latest in a string of honors for the Charger field hockey program this month. The Chargers previously had 10 student-athletes named to the Zag/NFHCA National Academic Squad on March 11, and the entire team was recognized as a Zag/NFHCA National Academic Team on March 4.
