Al Nicholson was the driving force behind the New Haven golf team. He started the varsity team as an undergraduate in 1962 and compiled a career record of 24-7.

Nicholson went on to coach the Chargers’ golf squad from 1966-76, leading the team to a 166-54 record and a seventh-place finish at the NCAA National Tournament in 1970.
