A three-time All-New England Football Conference performer, Brian Nugent was a four-year starter at linebacker for New Haven football.

Nugent, who played on both sides of the ball as a freshman, led the Chargers in tackles in two seasons and also garnered an interception in each of his four campaigns on the gridiron. As a senior, Nugent was a tri-captain for the Chargers and averaged more than 12 tackles per game en route to UPI All-New England laurels.

He was also selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player in 1979 and 1980 and was chosen by The Charger Bulletin as the Male Athlete of the Year for the 1979-80 academic year. Nugent later served as an assistant coach at New Haven.
