One of the best power hitters in the history of New Haven baseball, Bob Turcio shares the all-time lead at UNH with 29 career home runs, including 14 in 1978, which remains the second most in a single season.

Also one of the few with the distinction of hitting a roundtripper over the 35-foot centerfield scoreboard at Yale Field (a list that purportedly includes Babe Ruth), Turcio’s 138 runs batted in rank him fifth all-time in Charger history. In addition, he hit 85 extra-base hits – 36 doubles, 10 triples and 29 home runs – in his career with a .348 lifetime batting average bolstered by a .477 clip in 1977. That average in 1977 remains the fourth best in a single season.

Turcio added three wins and two saves on the mound in relief as a member of three NCAA College World Series teams.

During his career at New Haven, the Chargers collected a combined record of 122-24. Over that span, the Chargers advanced to the NCAA Championship all four years, including making three consecutive appearances in the College World Series.
