A leader on four NCAA postseason teams, Peter Zimmerman scored 24 goals and added 18 assists, totaling 66 career points for New Haven men’s soccer from 1975-78.

As a freshman, he netted a single-season career high eight goals for 16 points and never looked back.

In 1976, Zimmerman scored the game-winning goal as the Chargers defeated Southern Connecticut State in the 1976 NCAA Tournament en route to an appearance in the National Championship Game. The following season, New Haven returned to the Final Four and came back from Miami with a third-place finish.  Zimmerman tallied four goals and four assists in both his sophomore and junior seasons and had two goals and five assists as a senior.

Zimmerman played in a program-record 11 NCAA postseason contests, leading the Chargers to a 7-4 record in those matches and a 53-17-10 mark (.725) overall in his career.

A three-year team captain on the pitch, Zimmerman was recognized for his efforts in athletics and academics in 1979 as the University’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
