A true two-sport superstar, Cameron Drew was a 1,000-point scorer for New Haven men’s basketball and played in two College World Series for the baseball team before becoming the Chargers’ first and only Major League Baseball first round pick.

After an impressive .385 batting average with 12 home runs in 1985, Drew received All-New England Collegiate Conference and All-Region accolades, while leading the Chargers to their second straight College World Series. His name can still be found in the UNH single season record book, highlighted by his 1985 slugging percentage which remains the third best in a single season at .784. In addition, his 12 home runs is tied for fourth in a single season and he is sixth in total bases (109) and tied for seventh in triples with five, all of which were in 1985.

Following that season, Drew was selected 12th overall by the Houston Astros and played five seasons with the organization, including 16 Major League at-bats in 1988.

On the basketball court, he scored 1,139 points with 796 rebounds in three seasons of action, capped by a First Team All-NECC nod and second team NABC All-East District in his final campaign. His 1,139 points remains the 26th most in school history. Drew is also among the top-10 in a single season in rebounding with his team-leading 364 in 1984-85 the sixth most in school history.
